Fantasy MLS: Week 19

A full week of MLS games made for a high scoring week last week. There is a much lighter schedule this week with no teams playing twice this week as many of them are engaged in the US Open Cup competition. Prepare a challenge to find the right starting lineup as most games are fairly even this week.

The most favorable matchup this week seems to be the DC United at FC Dallas game. FC Dallas has looked very impressive since Brek Shea has proved to be one of the most valuable players in MLS. Dallas should be able to handle DC even with the recent trades that seem to have rejuvenated the team.

Here are a few more items to consider before setting your fantasy lineup this week:

FANTASY MLS: Week 19

BYE WEEK

Los Angeles and Toronto are off this week. Be sure to alter your lineup accordingly.

BEST XI

GK – Kevin Hartman, DAL – Made a rare mistake last week vs. RSL that gave up a goal but is normally one of the most reliable keepers in the league. Dallas has looked very strong as of late, even considering their two – zero loss at Rio Tinto. He is a safe bet at keeper with a home game vs. DC United.

D – Heath Pearce, CHV – Pearce has proven he is one of the leagues more consistent defenders since arriving to Chivas USA. Chivas defence has greatly improved under Robin Fraser and has a chance to get shutout points against a tired New York team.

D – Geoff Cameron, HOU – Midfielder listed as a defender in MFLS. Is always a threat to score and has a home game vs. Sporting Kansas City this week.

D – James Riley, SEA – Seattle has come on very strong as of late and Riley is always a fixture in the lineup. Has a good chance to get shutout points at home vs. Colorado.

M – Joel Lindpere, NY – Lindpere continued his strong form last week and is a key point in New York’s attack. He is becoming a very safe bet to start every week.

M – Brek Shea, DAL – Always a threat on the offensive end of the ball, Shea will have a chance against a DC United defence that has allowed twenty nine goals on the season.

M – Marco Pappa, CHI – The Chicago playmaker seems to always find a chance at goal no matter who they play. With a home game vs. Portland, whose road form as been less than stellar this year, Pappa should find many chances to contribute to the attack.

M – Brad Davis, HOU – Houston has a home game vs. a Kansas City side that has been much improved since their inaugural game at LiveStrong Park. If Houston ends up scoring, it will likely be due to a Davis cross, as he has nine assists on the season.

F – Fabian Espindola, RSL – It appears that Espindola is fully recovered from his injury. With a favoriable matchup against expansion side, Vancouver, he is a very good play this week.

F – Fredy Montero, SEA – Montero scored two goals last week and if he has found his form, he will be a must-own on every fantasy team. Should be able to find his chances at goal with a home game this week vs. Colorado.

F – Thierry Henry, NY – Not the best match up for the French forward, but in this light MLS week, he is one of the better plays to start in an away game vs. Chivas.

  1. I seem to recall a bloody beat down of Conor Casey sans El Presidente and compliments of, yes, his replacement Patrick Ianni in last years match-up in Seattle.

  2. I was going to say…

Shutout points against Colorado that, after the worst extended injury/suspension stretch in MLS suddenly has 20 out of 22 available for this match?

  3. Agreed. It’s been proven for DC that the forwards don’t need to score for United to win. De Ro, Pontius, and Najar are more than capable of putting it away, and if Davies or Wolff is having a good game, they are Very dangerous.

  4. Nothing to do with this poat, but check out the Canales article on si.com. Lets try and leave behind the unhelpful Bradley hating or adulation. I think Mike is talented, but he clearly has some maturity issues at this point. Also, I remember questioning the loan to AV last year, because why would a team in a relegation battle loan a player that could help them stay up? Several posters disagreed but their rationalizations for the move seemed specious, ven more so now. BMG management doesn’t seem particularly enamored with his attitude.

  5. Riley isn’t getting any shutout. He needs to be upgraded anyway. Rapids get at least 2 goals in this one with El Presidente out of the lineup…
