Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

MessiArgentina (Reuters)

After unloading on Costa Rica in its final group stage match, Argentina heads into the knock-out rounds of Copa American looking like a team capable of winning the trophy.

The first step in the knockout rounds will pit the 'Albiceleste' against Uruguay, the fourth-place finishers in the 2010 World Cup. Led by Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez, Uruguay finished in second place in its group, just as Argentina did.

MLS will be in full swing as well, with seven matches on the slate. The Seattle Sounders take on the Colorado Rapids in their first meeting since Brian Mullan's leg-breaking tackle on Steve Zakuani, while FC Dallas plays host to D.C. United in another promising match-up. The World Football Challenge will give us the highly-anticipated rematch of Real Madrid against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

  1. Yeah I like glenn davis but he was giving a handy to real madrid all game and john harkes… well you know. Sometimes I would rather have helen keller calling the games.

  2. That’s very true, good point. Forget about the Ronaldo goal, because it was a special one. What was more annoying was the way John Harkes basically came in his pants when Xabi Alonso took down a high ball that wasn’t too hard to control. It’s not like Alonso even killed it dead on a dime, it was a touch any decent U-17 kid could have made.

  3. FTR Perk is now in goal for the Galaxy. And is a young “lad” so I’d say there’s a good shot he’s never seen a shot like that.

  4. I’m pretty sure there probably are, just because he’s arguably the best player in the world doesn’t mean he has the hardest shot in the world.

  5. God these commentators need to get off of Real Madrid’s nuts. It’s getting to be way over the top. I mean, saying that Perkins have never seen a shot like that is ridiculous.

  6. Holy S**t! crackin’ goal by CR9… and don’t give a F*** that it’s friendly. absolute blur and deadly from a sharp angle…

  7. I was thinking that same thing today. Maybe over the next year they could schedule more than a few games against Copa American competing teams.

  8. Ya, but they have moved the ball around well. Just a few mental mistakes have cost them. Landon has looked great minus taking the safe route twice where he could have played a more probing, but risky ball.
