Transfer Ticker: Tevez move not done yet, potential De Guzman trade and more

Just when it seemed that Carlos Tevez was on his way out of England, the team after his services has claimed that a deal is not yet done.

Tevez's current club, Manchester City, claimed to have finally reached a fee agreement with his former club, Brazilian power Corinthians, according to remarks made by City boss Roberto Mancini. Corinthians, however, denies that a deal is in place, stating that City has changed some of the terms in the proposal and that nothing is settled yet.

After having initially turned down a substantial £40 million offer from Corinthians, City was believed to be holding out for a bid of at least £50 million for its captain.

Tevez has consistently stated his desire to return closer to his home in Argentina, citing homesickness and a longing to be with his family while playing in England. Nobody will be happier than the striker as his former club tabled a large bid to retain his services back in South America.

REPORT: MACCABI TEL AVIV-TFC SWAP INVOLVES DE GUZMAN

According to a report out of Israel, Toronto FC and Maccabi Tel Aviv are exploring a potential player trade that would send Designated Player midfielder Julian de Guzman to Tel Aviv in exchange for striker Roberto Colautti.

Colautti, 29, was teammates with Michael Bradley at Borussia Monchengladbach prior to joining the Israeli club. Born in Argentina, Colautti is a naturalized Israeli citizen and plays for Israel's national team.

VILLA ON VERGE OF GIVEN DEAL, BID FOR N'ZOGBIA

Aston Villa appears to have its successor to Brad Friedel, and his name is not Brad Guzan.

Villa is on the verge of sealing a long-speculated £3.5 million deal for Manchester City keeper Shay Given, who had been reduced to backup duties at City with the emergence of Joe Hart.

Barring a Guzan transfer to another club, something that new Villa manager Alex McLeish has said he is currently not interested in exploring, the American keeper appears set to compete to be Given's backup.

Villa is also hoping to land Wigan Athletic midfielder Charles N'Zogbia to replace the departed Stewart Downing. The club reportedly registered a £10 million bid to Wigan and is waiting for a response.

HAMSIK COULD STAY AT NAPOLI

As one of the most talented young players in the world, transfer speculation over the summer is a given for Marek Hamsik.

However, Napoli club president Walter Mazzarri says he believes that the young Slovakian will remain with the Serie A outfit depite interest from a slew of clubs, most recently AC Milan.

Hamsik has been with Napoli since late June in 2007, accruing 140 appearances and netting a hefty 41 goals in his stint with the club.

SNEIJDER TOLD TO LINK UP WITH UNITED

Despite stating his desire to stay in Italy days ago, Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder has been told by current Dutch National Team coach Bert van Marwijk that he would benefit from a move to the Premier League champions Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson stated earlier in the week that the club was uninterested in luring Sneijder away from the San Siro, but speculation continues to swarm as United looks for an advanced playmaker to add to its ranks.

Inter gave the Dutchman a new five-year deal recently and seems to enjoy life in Milan, therefore a move to United is still up the in air, though Sneijder's father says he and his son are aware of United's interest.

Think Tevez ultimately winds up at Corinthians? What do you make of the De Guzman-to-Israel report? What do you think about Aston Villa's goalkeeping situation? Do you see Hamsik and Sneijder staying put or making moves?

  1. Why do you say that? As an Israel and NYRB fan, I’d love to see Colautti in NY. I do think he’d be really popular among the Israeli crowd in NY, but I don’t think it’s a big enough community to sell that many tickets… Maybe.

NY definitely needs another striker to partner better with Henry when Rodgers isn’t available. Agudelo is just not ready for primetime.

  2. I agree – he’ll be better off at another club. Guzan is a perfectly capable keeper, but Aston Villa’s disfunctional management is paying a transfer fee (plus a higher salary) to get a guy who lost his starting job at another club rather than addressing other pressing needs.

  3. Guzan needs to find a place where he can plsy consistently, even if it is down a level (Championship). He seemed to be well-received there on loan last year so maybe he can land something there. It would be a drag to drop behind Given (even if he is a quality keeper).

  4. So, TFC is trading away everything and the kitchen sink.

JDG DP’d (bow chika bow wow) TFC salary more than actually being an MLS DPS on the pitch. I don’t blame them for finally moving him.
