SBI MLS Rookie of the Week: Alex Dixon

The impact of Homegrown Players in MLS has been gradual but significant, and last week the Houston Dynamo saw the first major contribution from one of their own Homegrown Players as Alex Dixon stepped up and delivered a clutch game-winning goal against Real Salt Lake.

Dixon's goal, arguably the biggest goal of the past week, earned him SBI MLS Rookie of the Week honors. Dixon edged out Chicago's Jalil Anibaba, Sporting Kansas City's C.J. Sapong to join teammate Will Bruin as Dynamo players to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season.

A University of North Carolina standout who left school to sign with the Dynamo earlier this year, Dixon showed the quickness, skill and nose for goal that made him one of the top players in college last year.

What did you think of Dixon's goal? Who was your MLS Rookie of the Week?

  1. I seem to recall that the Dynamo got a few good performances in goal from Academy project Tyler Deric at the tail end of the 2010 season. Still, great job by Dixon.
