It is rare when a defender steps up and has a week worthy of Player of the Week honors, but Bobby Boswell is no stranger to such weeks and had another one this past weekend.

The Houston Dynamo defender scored goals in both of Houston's matches last week, including a stoppage time equalizer against New England and late equalizer in an eventual Dynamo win over Real Salt Lake. Those clutch goals, combined with Boswell's defensive work, earned him SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.

Boswell edged out a few worthy contenders for the honors, including Sporting Kansas City's Graham Zusi, New England's Milton Caraglio, Chivas USA's Laurent Courtois and New York's Dane Richards to name a few.

What did you think of Boswell's performance last week? Who got your vote for MLS Player of the Week?

  1. yea i do. even for the week i don’t see it as a well chosen pick because i think the goals he’s allowed negates a couple he’s scored.

  2. this really wasn’t deserved. I’m from texas and get to see most dynamo and fc dallas games. so having watched most of their games i have to say that this is very surprising. The back 4 has been horrible and has given up so many goals on stupid plays compared to defenses of the past few years years. Boswell hasn’t been stepped up his play and is never vocally engaged enough. even if he’s scored goals the past couple of games, he’s responsible for too many scored against the team because of his horrible play.

(SBI-You realize this is Player of the WEEK right? If you want to say Boswell is having a subpar SEASON, that’s one thing, but we gave him the nod this week for what he did LAST WEEK. Disagree with the pick based on that and you’re entitled to an opinion. Bringing up how he’s struggled all year doesn’t really have a thing to do with him being worthy of this honor THIS WEEK.)

  3. I forgot Hou had 2 games. Thought Cameron and Davis were the best Dynamo players on the field against RSL. So impressed with what Zusi is doing in KC, which is delivering a great atmosphere in the new stadium, hats off to the fans there.

  4. Bowsell seems to never be 100% responsible for giving up goals this year, but he always seems to be right there and does nothing.

  5. Wow… did you happen to see any of his multiple defensive gaffes this week???

(SBI-Not sure about multiple gaffes. You going to blame the Revs goal on him? He tried to clear it and didn’t get it out but multiple players had a chance to stop that play. Espindola goal? Hainault played him onside. The Gil goal? You can say Gil beat Boswell on that goal but it was a great cross, not sure that qualifies as a “Gaffe”. Was it the best week defensively by any defender in the league? Nope, but he delivered two VITAL goals for Houston.)
