Stuart Holden returned to action for the first time in five months on Tuesday with an 80-minute appearance with the Bolton reserves, and while his team suffered a 7-0 thrashing in London, Holden accomplished a very important mission.

He took the field and played.

Holden came away encouraged and excited by his first match since March, and could be in action for Bolton in the Premier League as soon as Sept. 10th against Manchester United.

Here is my Fox Soccer interview with Stuart Holden, who discussed making his return to the playing field after being sidelined five months with a knee fracture.

What do you think of Holden's comments? Surprised he came back so soon? Think he can be even better in the Premier League this year?

  1. Yes, his attitude has perhaps been his greatest asset through all of these setbacks. He has never shown the slightest bit of feeling sorry for himself, or wondering, “Why me? Why again?”

He has a great mentality to go with his high soccer IQ and skills. If he truly is better, stronger, and faster (and smarter?) than before, then he’ll make his way up Jurgen’s depth chart soon enough.

  2. Nice article. I could hardly look at the video of Holden and Johnny Evans hurtling toward each other, knowing that Holden was going to get the bad end of the deal. Watching it you wanted to see Holden pull back and avoid the challenge, and it sounds from the interview as if he now sees the Evans challenge as one he maybe should have avoided.

Wish Holden all the best and good health and succees at the club level and on the USMNT–and maybe Nigel de Jong, the jerk who broke Holden’s leg with a totally unnecessary vicious tackle in a March 2010 friendly and then four months later in the World Cup assaulted Xabi Alanso with the infamous Kung Fu kick in the chest, will experience bad karma at some point in the future.
