Transfer Update: Ruiz situation unsettled, Parker joins Spurs and more

Bryan Ruiz' expected move to Fulham might not happen after all.

Newcastle United has swooped in with a bid that is said to have trumped that of Fulham, meaning that the Costa Rican attacker could be on his way to St. James Park instead of Craven Cottage as had been reported on Tuesday.

Fulham is still in the mix after submitting a reported bid of £10.6 million to FC Twente for the attacker's services, but the Ruiz' situation is far from settled as the hours tick down until the transfer window closes.

Here are a few more items from a wild transfer deadline day in Europe:

Scott Parker has gotten his wish.

A day after submitting a transfer request to West Ham, Parker has joined Tottenham on a permanent transfer.

The 2010-11 PFA Player of the Year, Parker provides a boost to Spurs' midfield, which is set to lose Honduran international Wilson Palacios to Stoke City.

In a separate transaction, Tottenham sent David Bentley to West Ham on a season-long loan.

Arsenal has drawn the attention of most fans during the final stages of this transfer window, and after coming to agreements with Park Chu-young, Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos, the club appears to have its sights set on securing Yossi Benayoun on loan from Chelsea.

Arsenal had reportedly submitted a £10 million bid for Everton central midfielder Mikel Arteta before withdrawing interest later in the day only to have talks re-opened when Arteta expressed his desire to leaving Goodison Park.

Stoke City set out to improve its forward corps, and it appears to have done just that by nearing deals with Birmingham's Cameron Jerome and Tottenham's Peter Crouch.

Neither deal is final as of yet, but the details are expected to be hammered out prior to the transfer deadline.

Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan put the finishing touches on a two-year deal with Inter Milan, completing his move from Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid re-filled its Diego quota by adding the Brazilian playmaker on loan from Wolfsburg.

Owen Hargreaves' move to Manchester City has been completed.

Young Costa Rican star Joel Campbell has been sent on loan to French club Lorient from Arsenal for the season, while French U-20 striker Gilles Sunu has joined Lorient from Arsenal on a four-year permanent deal.

Jonathan de Guzman, brother of Toronto FC midfielder Julian de Guzman, has joined Villarreal from Real Mallorca.

What do you think of the latest transfer news? Where do you hope Ruiz ends up? Can you see Parker thriving with Spurs? Do you think Arsenal has done enough during this window? Is Stoke a threat in the Premier League?

as an Everton fan, I wouldn’t mind losing Arteta, as he has been out of form for a very long time, and his wage demands are killing us. however, I wish it would have happened a while ago so we can actually do something with the cash, rather than just lose a player from our already thin squad

I say the same thing for Heitinga, he hasn’t shown me much and could get some kind of price. Hopefully the Drenthe rumors pan out. I’m tired of watching Tim get left out to dry by that backline and heitinga just watching from his spot. Timmy, Baines, Jagielka, Cahill would probably fetch the highest prices but I wouldn’t want to see any besides jagielka go.

hey look Oneywu is out of focus in the background!!! this is the only coverage this guy is getting these days..

Sad not to have Dempsey play with a much better club with better players.

I’m sorry, but Arteta is not a better player than Dempsey overall. The Duece has much more experience overall and brings more to the table. Arsenal has 2 other players similar to Arteta but much better off the ball…. Arteta is so 2009! :)

I don’t think Fulham would have let Dempsey go for anything less than 16 mil. Its not a question of whos better but whos club can survive after the loss. I also wanted to Dempsey to move, but Fulham’s future should be looking up if they do, as reported, pick up Ruiz.

Why do you have the Ruiz transfer to Fulham as “unsettled” here, and settled (with an announcement from Ruiz himself) four stories below?

  • Dr.MonkeyArmy

Seriously? You don’t think a team would pay 3.7 million pounds for Dempsey?

Unfortunately, I agree. Love what Mikky has done for the Toffees. But it was time. Having Drenthe on loan though more than softens the blow. This kid will do even better than Manny Fernandes did when he was on loan from Valencia. And good enough to have a Pinnear-type impact if not better.
