The North London Derby headlines this weekend's proceedings as Tottenham and Arsenal renew one of the fiercest rivalries in world soccer.

Brad Friedel and Spurs will be the favorites, but you can never predict what will happen when Harry Redknapp's squad takes on Arsene Wenger's team. The Gunners will come in with some confidence after posting an important Champions League victory.

There are Derbys galore around the world, but another English derby will share headlines with Tottenham/Arsenal, as the Merseyside Derby captures the attention of viewers on both sides of the pond.

MLS features a handful of quality match-ups, from the West Coast clash between Los Angeles and Real Salt Lake, to the important East Coast match-up between D.C. United and Columbus. The loaded playoff race should come into focus after those matches, as well as Houston's tangle with the Chicago Fire.

Here are SBI's Top Ten Matches to Watch, and This Weekend's Soccer on TV:

SBI's Top Ten Matches to Watch

1. Tottenham vs. Arsenal. North London Derby. Enough said.

2. Everton vs. Liverpool. Merseyside Derby. Enough said.

  1. The Liverpool derby official Atkinson needs to be suspended.
Jack Rodwell makes a stong one-footed tackle on Saurez wins the ball but nicks Saurez with the follow through. Atkinson gives a straight red for a tackle that may not have deserved a yellow. It ruined the game, and suspended an innocent player. The card needs to be revoked and Atkinson needs to be suspended.

  2. Buddle looked completely lost against Mexico in August, but then so did the whole team until a few substitutions were made. He also wasn’t getting much service.

That said, I think he and Findley deserve at least one more look. I’d say Findley first, though, since he has more years in him.

  3. It’s not just that the red card against Rodwell was wrong — it was also unnecessarily wrong, given that Atkinson was no more than 5 feet away from the tackle. And there was absolutely no hesitation on his part either, as the card came out straight away. Completely insane.

  4. Oh, man, Daniel Williams playing midfield with a great ball win in the 25th minute and attack down the left wing. No goal, but looked awesome against Bayern.

  5. Hmmmm, have to say that it’s been surprisingly even with Everton’s 10 and Liverpool’s 12….

…until Carroll just beat Howard. Bad luck.

  6. Yeah Dempsey has been quite good this season. It’s just if his teammates can UP their game as well and actually score some goals.

Buddle and Gomez would do well for qualifying. No other strikers in MLS can match them. I doubt either makes the roster for the next WC though.

Bunbury and Agudelo are just not to the LEVEL necessary yet for the NT. They need to stick with the u-23’s

  7. Thanks. With Buddle, Gomez and Jozy scoring somewhat regularly (for Jozy, I think he is AZ leading scorer with Europa League included?), I’m digging the weekly YA recap so far. Hoping Deuce can bag a few more soon given (at least from reports on this site and others) he’s been lively for Fulham.

  8. Apparently Buddle scored 2 goals today for Ingolstadt. That’s 5 goals so far this season, Incredible. He needs another call-up, definitely above Bunbury.

  9. Ahh seriously you put these matches (coming from a Manutd fan):

    1. Tottenham vs. Arsenal. North London Derby. Enough said.

    2. Everton vs. Liverpool. Merseyside Derby. Enough said.

    3. Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake. Galaxy look to lock up Supporters Shield, RSL looks to halt recent skid.

  10. COOOOOOOOOME ONNNNNNN YOOOOOU SPUUUUUUUURS

The fact that we’re considered favorites this time makes me think we’re going to, like, blow a 4-0 lead or something.

  11. Wait, there’s such a thing as “NW haters”?

I’ll admit, I hate Sounders fans–not because of where they live, but because they think they’re God’s gift to MLS.

Include Vancouver v. Portland in the Top Ten or don’t; I actually keep forgetting we have a team in Vancouver.
