Two of the big dogs are still alive in the Carling Cup.
Manchester United and Arsenal each advanced to the quarterfinals of the Carling Cup, with the Red Devils beating League Two upstart Aldershot Town, 3-0, and Arsenal came from behind to defeat fellow top-flight side Bolton, 2-1.
Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia accounted for Manchester United's goals, as a reserve-laden team got the job done and avoided the upset.
Arsenal received goals from Andrei Arshavin and Park Chu-Young, with the latter netting the game-winner on his debut for the Gunners.
Cardiff City and Crystal Palace also advanced to the quarterfinals, with wins over Burnley and Southampton, respectively.
Here are a few more stories from around the soccer world:
TEVEZ FINED FOR MISCONDUCT
Disgruntled Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez has been fined a month's pay for his actions in a Champions League match last month when he refused to come on as a substitute.
Tevez was initially suspended for two weeks after the incident, but he won't be required to miss any more playing time as a result of his latest punishment.
Tevez has the option to appeal the decision, which will cost him $1.6 million.
WILLIAMS STARTS, JOHNSON SUBS IN HOFFENHEIM WIN
Daniel Williams started and went the distance, and Fabian Johnson came on as a late substitute as TSG Hoffenheim advanced in the DFB Pokal with a 2-1 win over FC Cologne.
Johnson made his second appearance since returning from a neck injury, coming on as an 83rd-minute substitute to help shut the door on Cologne and see Hoffenheim through to the third round.
U.S. Under-20 and 1860 Munich striker Bobby Wood and Paderborn forward Matt Taylor each made appearances off the bench in the second half of their teams' respective cup losses.
TERRY INVESTIGATED FOR RACISM
John Terry is in a bit of hot water for alleged remarks he made to Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand in Chelsea's 1-0 loss to QPR over the weekend.
The moment of contention was caught on video, when Terry and Ferdinand got into a heated exchange. Terry claims to have not said anything of the sort and that he was defending himself from a Ferdinand accusation in the scene on video.
"I thought Anton was accusing me of using a racist slur against him,'' Terry said following the game. "I responded aggressively, saying that I never used that term.''
The English FA and London police are investigating the incident.
