The New York Red Bulls and Los Angeles Galaxy head into tonight's contest with plenty to play for, with extra incentives awaiting a victory in this high-profile contest (8pm, ESPN).

The Galaxy can clinch a second straight Supporters Shield with a win tonight, while a victory for the Red Bulls would push New York a big step closer to the playoffs.

The Red Bulls are catching a break as they face a short-handed Galaxy side playing without Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane, Sean Fraklin, Chris Birchall against what will be a full-strength Red Bulls side. New York will be starting Rafa Marquez for the second straight match since his suspension for criticizing teammates and how the Mexican star does tonight should go a long way in determining of the Red Bulls can produce the victory they so sorely need tonight.

SBI will be providing live commentary on tonight's match so please feel free to follow along here. As always, you are welcome to share your own thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

  1. credit NY, they played better after a bright start for the Galaxy but with no finish up top. Rodgers was the sparkplug, dude plays with a fire to be appreciated. Quality assit for Marquez too, who I cannot stand.

hope we’ve seen the last of Barrett-Lopez up top…a bag of rocks. Barrett failed to capitalize on numerous advantageous situations that were created throughout and especially early; Lopez is skilled but can’t synch with his teammates yet it seems. AJ and Frankie with forgettable games, Frankie subbed at half mercifully after relentless assault up his alley after he picked up early yellow.

USMNT note: Ream and/or Gonzo. good looks at both players in this one.

  2. By chance, has anyone ever nicknamed you, “Blind Frank”? If not, then perhaps the word “class” does not mean what you think it means. I think the word you are looking for is “crap”.

Hey, much better effort from the Mexican captain tonight. They are a different team when he is actually trying. L.A. Didn’t look like they believed they could win after ther first goal. They seemed pretty deflated without Lando and Keane.

  3. Come on man, The hate is there because he rarely seems like he is trying. despite his huge paycheck, oh If you had actually seen the games you would have noticed his lackluster effort that was compounded by throwing his teammates under the bus.

  4. In the 6 Galaxy games I’ve watched Jordan has always been the worst player, so many poor short passes that will expose and get his teammates buried. Arena needs to get rid of him.

  5. Yes I have. Yes, he is having a bad season but all players do even the best ones. He is still class and will excel at a better league. MLS was a bad decision for him.

  6. Can anyone explain what has happened to Marquez? Did he turn 60 years old overnight? Or did he slow down just a little but completely lose interest? Does he also look this bad for the national team or does he still play well in that setting, just not for NYRB?

  7. Wouldn’t mind Marquez coming out with Nielsen coming in. Have Nielsen and Richards run up and down the wings for the second half. Has anyone seen the reserve game? Can Nielsen still run?

  8. I’ve been saying this for a while. American commentators are like spokesman for the national team coach. They never criticize. British announcer Surprised Omar Gonzalez didnt get a nats call”. Harkes, Well its part of Klinnsman experiment he’ll probably be on of the next ones called. British announcer ,Ream having sophmore jinx. Harkes, Well, he lost his starting job in the Gold Cup, would effect anyone’s confidence, but he’ll get better.
