SBI Live Q&A

SBI Live Q&A (Oct. 3 Edition)

It is that time again folks. Time for us to discuss all things soccer in the latest SBI Live Q&A.

With the MLS playoff race in full swing, and the U.S. national team ready to play a pair of friendlies, there is plenty to talk about for American soccer fans.

Want to talk about Klinsmann's call-ups? Jozy Altidore's goal-scoring run? The MLS playoff and awards races? European soccer? Music? You name, we'll talk about now.

Let's get started (Live Q&A is after the jump):

  • Vic

US soccer writers are like no others. They agree with the coach no matter what he’s doing. Bradley can call in one set of players and the writers will agree. Klinnsmann can come in and select a whole different set and the writers will agree. Ives is a great writer and provides great info. I don’t blame writers for what they’re doing. Criticism can hurt access considering USA soccer community is a small group. Not saying media should go crazy like in other countries but a balance would be nice.

  • JrDosSantos

What kind of criticism are you looking for?

Klinns is taking as much heat as he should for the recent performances, he shouldn’t be taking anymore heat from the media for what players he calls in for friendlies…

The problem with BB was he would call in Bornstien and Sasha over and over and over, wish he did that with Holden when he was younger but no one knew he would develop the way he has to become one of the USMNTs best players when he’s in the sharp form he had before the initial injury 7 months ago

I hate how everyone says best players all the time, it just bothers me because you can win games without playing as a “team”, it’s nice to have standouts, but I like teamwork kinda like Germany I know even though they have Podolski, Klose, Ozil, and Muller/Gotze, whom are excellent players, many US fans are quick to call players one of the best within only 4 or 5 appearances.

Brek Shea has a Norwegian passport. Work permit would be a non issue. Would also have the number of NT caps necessary for a work permit in Jan, given Bedoya got his, and isn’t in the NT picture at the moment.

“I’ve seen more of Gyau, and he’s an exciting prospect. I know Wood is solid (no pun intended)”

    laughed 🙂

always appreciate your takes Ives, your perspective with your access.

it’s fun talking about the USMNT CBs, yes?

The only issue I think is that the caps have to be for WC qualifying or the Gold Cup or basically in a real competition as opposed to friendlies. Shea has only recently been called up. The Norwegian passport should make it pretty simple to get a UK work permit however, as most EU countries are allowed simple access to UK work permits. As for Bedoya, he’d been called up quite a bit for big competitions. Also, I’m not sure if it’s relevant, but he had been playing in Sweden for quite some time, which may have allowed for easier access to the permit.

The whole process can be quite complicated, so my information may be off, but I think those are the situations as of now.

Disappointed I missed the Live Q&A, two points:

1.Currently listening to Sander van Doorn on Spotify – sick.

2.If we’re building towards 2014, why are we concentrating on players who will be past their prime in 2-1/2 years? Shouldn’t Klinsmann begin to mold the best young players in the pool instead of sticking with the old guard? Certainly the Olympic squad will have the best young senior members alongside the best U-20 players in the hopes of finding our future USMNT?
