SBI MLS Player of the Week: Danny Koevermans

Danny Koevermans needed little time to adjust to MLS, and his performance in Toronto FC's regular-season finale was the latest piece of evidence of that.

The bruising Dutch Designated Player came up with a goal and an assist in Toronto's season-ending 2-2 draw with the New England Revolution to put a cap on an impressive few first months in MLS and take home SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.

Koevermans finished the season with eight goals in 10 MLS appearances since suiting up for the first time for the Reds in late July, and the skilled striker figures to be a player to watch next season as TFC looks to take the leap to the next level.

Koevermans beat out the likes of Chicago's Jalil Anibaba, San Jose's Simon Dawkins, Houston's Adam Moffat and New England's Benny Feilhaber to take home the final weekly honors of the season.

Who was your MLS player of the week? What did you make of Koevermans' impact in his few months in the league?

  1. Actually, he was hired at the end of last season to suggest a strategic vision and consult on the coaching position. You may be able to lay the contact with Frings at his feet, but I suspect Koov was all Winter and deKlerk. Both have been great additions.

  2. Funny, who was hired on midseason as a consultant to help direct personnel and future team strategy?

    Oh that’s right, Juergen Klinsmann.

  3. O’ not a TFC fan, but I take some satisfaction in knowing I was right to say this was a good signing — and that all you haters were wrong.

  4. Yeah buddy! Danny K! He had a bit of slow start when he arrived at TFC but once he was match fit, the goals just started popping. DPs have a mixed record of success IMO but DPs #2 and #3 at Toronto have had huge impact (and they are improving #1’s play).
