Soccer Tuesday: A Look Ahead

A riveting weekend of international club soccer just came to an end, but Tuesday's slate of cup and league matches provides a chance for some more fireworks.

Manchester United takes on upstart Aldershot Town (2:45 p.m., Fox Soccer Plus/FoxSoccer.tv) and Arsenal faces Bolton in Carling Cup round-of-16 matches; Barcelona returns to action against Granada (2 p.m., ESPN3.com) just days after being stumped by Sevilla goalkeeper Javi Varas; and Juventus and Fiorentina square off (2:45 p.m, Fox Soccer Channel) in some of the more intriguing matches of the day.

On the Americans Abroad front, quite a few could see time in Germany in the second round of the DFB Pokal, where Danny Williams, Fabian Johnson and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim meet FC Cologne in a battle of top-flight teams. Elsewhere in the tournament bracket, teams in action with American connections include Borussia Dortmund (Terrance Boyd), 1860 Munich (Bobby Wood) and SC Paderborn 07 (Matt Taylor).

Which match do you have your eye on? Do you see any major power falling in cup play?

  3. Hoping to see Terrance Boyd get in for Dortmund. Has this kid said if he would play for the United States with his dual citizenship? Being called into the defending German champion’s squad is impressive for a 20 year old striker. He has scored a lot of goals in the last two years in reserve action. Could be a real asset given our goal scoring issues with the Nats.

  4. Cardiff!!! (“Hometown” team) but will be interested to see if ManU are a bit shell shocked still or come out and try to take it out on Aldershot.
