Americans Abroad: A Look Ahead

That's one of the words that can best be used to describe Rangers' undefeated season, a season that Carlos Bocanegra, Maurice Edu and the rest of the club will attempt to build on when they face Dundee United on Saturday.

Currently nine points clear of second-place Motherwell with an 11-0-2 record, Rangers should take another step towards claiming a fourth straight Scottish Premier League title if it can live up to its expectations against Dundee. Bocanegra and Edu are likely to start the match, though whether Alejandro Bedoya dresses or not is less certain.

This weekend could also give U.S. men's national team fans a glimpse of what some of their most recent call-ups can do. Joe Corona should see the field in some capacity when Club Tijuana takes on Pumas UNAM, while Alfredo Morales could see time for Hertha Berlin its match against Borussia Moenchengladbach.

If you're searching for an American match-up, look no further than Clint Dempsey and Fulham's tilt against Brad Friedel and Tottenham Hotspur. Dempsey is a goal away from becoming the American with most career goals scored in the Premiership, but Friedel won't want to be the goalkeeper to allow Dempsey that record.

Here is who the Americans Abroad face this weekend:

Ugh!!!!! FK Tom’ Tomsk are straight dead last in the Russian Premeir league table. Eugene Starikov needs to find a new team and start scoring so he can get on Klinsmann’s radar.

  • LOL

No homo, but Bocanegra is a good looking dude. Why isn’t he doing some modeling ala Beckham?

  • LOL

Sure hope Dempsey scores. It’ll be his 37th PL goal. Dude needs to leave Fulham at season’s end and head to a CL team in Italy or Spain. I’m sure Napoli/Roma or Villarreal/Sevilla could use him. He’d have to bust his balls every week to start but he could make it i’m sure.

  • Dinho

He busts his balls every week on the field as it is. Wouldn’t be much of a change. I’d love to see him in the lineup for someone while hearing the Champion’s League song in the background. Swag is the word that comes to mind.

Long time poster here and Nats fan, but can we stop sucking dempsey’s tip for a second.. yea he’s one of the best that we got, but it’s not like he’s objectively THAT good…. it’s kind of depressing to me that our best field player is a guy who only languishes for a mid table team… we really need to be striving for more and being on the tip of some of the younger kids who maybe actually have a chance to become genuine world class stars

  • Dinho

Really? Considering what we have, why not?

He’s not world class, agreed, but he is good and scoring goals in the EPL. Why not praise him?

Tell me which kids we should be praising (who haven’t yet done anything to deserve it)

Their time will come (hopefully), so stop being Debbie Downer, for now.

  • LOL

dude seriously? Dempsey may not be Messi, heck he may not even be Nasri or Yaya Toure but he’s solid and he’s ours. Born and bred. Came from the bottom and at the top. Kicking butts and taking names.

Dempsey could start on any team outside the top 4 in any of the major leagues in Europe. He’s shown that he doesn’t accept pain. He overcomes it.

  • LOL

It’d be so lovely to see Clint playing for Sevilla or Napoli and being celebrated as one of the world’s top 30 players.
