This Weekend’s Soccer on TV

A battle of unbeaten English Premier League teams in November is the kind of match-up fans dream of, but the two teams ready to take part in that battle aren't the teams many would have envisioned before the season began.

First-place Manchester City takes on the biggest surprise of the Premier League season, Newcastle, in the weekend's most enticiing match-up. It might not have the big-name attraction of some other high-profile match-ups, but it will be a telling contest about both unbeatens.

The more high-profile match-up of the weekend will be in London, where Chelsea will take on Liverpool. The Blues are in dire need of points as manager Andres Villas Boas faces pressure to produce results while Liverpool badly needs results to avoid falling too far behind the pack challenging for places in the Premier League's Top Four.

England isn't the only league that will feature quality battles. Napoli takes on Lazio in a star-studded affair, while the Mexican League playoffs also get underway.

The MLS Cup Final will have its place among the weekend's premier matches as well, with the Los Angeles Galaxy looking to complete a dream season against an underdog Houston side looking to finish off a late-season hot streak with another championship.

Comments

  1. Norwich v. Arsenal very entertaining. Fluid stuff from both sides. Norwich goal after Metsersacker goes down like a wet piece of spaghetti trying to challenge Morrison.

  2. Chelsea vs Liverpool is also being replayed on Fox before or after whatever NFL game is on Fox that day.

For me in Minneapolis, that means it’s on at 2pm ET

  3. So is ESPN actually showing these games just b/c of Jozy? I believe it’s the only Dutch game on all weekend.

Figure it would be tough to do something like that, but what do I know…
