Zamora, Cisse join QPR; Spurs add Saha, Nelsen ahead of transfer deadline

The winter transfer window across Europe closed on Tuesday, and a number of teams — not the usual big-spenders — that were scrambling to fill vacancies and address needs for the second half of their respective seasons were able to add some valuable pieces to the puzzle.

Queens Park Rangers fall into that category, adding firepower in the form of former Lazio striker Djibril Cisse and Fulham forward Bobby Zamora.

Tottenham made a late charge ahead of the transfer deadline, adding Louis Saha on loan from Everton for the rest of the season and acquiring former D.C. United centerback Ryan Nelsen on a free transfer from Blackburn.

The Toffees added a familiar face in Steven Pienaar, reacquiring the South African on loan from Tottenham for the remainder of the campaign. Everton also went out and signed Nikica Jelavic from Rangers and introduced the striker to the crowd at Goodison Park during the club's victory over Manchester City.

The only American international to make a move ahead of the deadline was U-23 midfielder Mikkel Diskerud, who moved from Stabaek to Belgian club Gent on loan for the rest of the season.

The biggest name being batted around during deadline day, Carlos Tevez, failed to secure a move and is still with Manchester City.

Here is a list of moves that have been completed and announced as of Tuesday's deadline:

  1. Spurs got the short end on both defender and striker. This is not a move to challenge for the the EPL title. What are they doing, paying Harry’s back taxes instead.

  2. makes sense for newcastle b/c obertan hasn’t locked down the RM position but does not make sense for Dempsey b/c he wouldn’t get champions league football there

  3. I wonder what happened to that kid with the Adam Smith haircut who was crying when Leeds got sent down. I’m sure the media in Leeds will reunite them.

  5. You’re a Gonner? You’re going to die? I’ve heard Gooners and Gunners, but never Gonners. Perhaps that is a Freudian slip re: your hopes for Arsenal’s Champions League hopes.

  7. While as a Gonner, I’d love to see him at Arsenal, I think Dempsey’s style would make him an ideal fit for Seire A.

I’ll duck now while people throw things

  8. Cisse is a done deal and Zamora is terrible, QPR already have a number of forwards who dont score, they hardly need another. Not sure what you’re referring to with “we’ll see if they can properly handle all the new acquisitions” and how that relates to Tarrabt and Barton? There are some big personalities of course, but probably no more so than any other Prem club.

  9. I don’t think Cisse to QPR is a done deal yet. It looks like QPR is making a final day move for Zamora if they can work out personal terms. I think Cisse would be a better fit. QPR are the biggest EPL movers this window we’ll see if they can properly handle all of their new acquisitions. With Taarabt and Barton in the mix I have my doubts.
