  1. I’m tired of all the old timers on TV opining how two-footed tackles were A-OK in their day. These studs-up head on tackles, two footed or not, end careers. Pray Holden can recover, but he could loose $millions in earnings from a couple dangerous tackles. The NFL is smart enough to refine rules to reduce chances of serious injury, and the EPL should do likewise.

  2. FWIW, Napoli v Palermo is pretty entertaining so far. Cavani missed a wide open header and both teams playing positive soccer.

  3. I disagree with the notion that Chievo was uninspired; they simply just aren’t that good. Their quality dictates that they need to play defensively, especially on the road, and stay organized, hoping they can finish their few chances. Moscardelli’s baffling failure to pull the trigger is the obvious example of not finishing but they had a few other (lesser) chances as well.

As for MB, I thought this was far from his best game for Chievo. He continues to show composure on the ball, making smart, short, possession oriented passes, his touch was quality as were the majority of his free kicks but he looked a step behind defensively and at other times he looked a bit lost. Playing centrally in a defensive oriented plan, his lack of involvement isn’t something I’d give him praise for.

That said, they were two PKs (one for a really stupid foul and the other for an unfortunate handball) from taking a point on the road versus a superior opponent.

  4. where is kahn to let us know that both penalities, while the result of other player’s fouls, were MB’s fault?

    Just kidding Kahn.

  5. Given may be returning for AV next week against Everton. If I were the manager, I’d keep Guzan in goal until Given clearly shows he’s 100% again and let them compete for the no1 spot. I mean Guzan has handled it for the past month. He has to show he can do it.

  6. this just in… my boi Dempsey scored a hat-trick yesterday. Sure it was League 1 opponents (though most likely soon to be promoted to Championship) but still impressive.

sure hope Fulham either lock him down with a 5 year contract or a bigger club like Arsenal/Liverpool come in for him. Dude has 12 goals so far this season in 28 matches. He can realistically reach 20 goals by June.

  7. MB is clearly showing why in a year or 2 a bigger club in Italy or Spain will be paying some nice cash to acquire him. I’d love to see him at Napoli or Roma.

  8. Chievo had too many unforced giveaways. Bradley made some nice passes – turning and passing upfield while under pressure. The team has a few bright spots, but I’ll agree with your statement that, overall they were uninspiring.

  9. Evans got a straight red for his challenge on holden. I believe SAF made a comment after the game that the ref was influenced by the graphic nature of the injury though.

Every time evans and de jong step onto a field i want them to be on the wrong end of a career ending tackle. Unapologetically.

  10. Roma dominated Bradley’s Cheivo today, and won on 2 penalties. Cheivo had a couple missed opportunities in front of goal that could have made a difference, but couldn’t convert. MB played well, defensive mostly, a couple good corners, good touches, passing and a close free kick – but generally cheivo were not inspiring.

  11. I recall that it wasn’t even going to be a yellow card decision until the official saw how injured Holden was and probably felt he had to produce a card of some sort.

  12. Absolutely ridiculous decision. Am I correct in recalling that the latest tackle which sidelined Holden received only a yellow? And yet that Kompany tackle is a straight red?

  13. Stop the presses, Manchester United was the beneficiary of an egregious, game changing call! With a man advantage United still got run over in the second half.

How about a public apology from Rooney for screaming in the officials face? Referee is clearly going to give Kompany a yellow card until Rooney comes running in yelling and waving his arms to give a red. Disgusting.
