David Beckham is returning to Los Angeles.

Sources confirmed to Soccer By Ives on Wednesday that the English star would be returning to the Los Angeles Galaxy for the upcoming 2012 season.

A press conference is expected to take place on Thursday in Los Angeles to announce Beckham's re-signing.

Beckham will head into the 2012 MLS season, his sixth with the Galaxy, looking to help lead the Galaxy in the CONCACAF Champions League, and will try to help LA repeat as champions.

Beckham had been rumored to be joining French side Paris St. Germain, but turned away their advances last month, paving the way for a return to the defending MLS Cup champion Galaxy.

  1. Ronaldinho wants to play in the 2014 World Cup and has no chance if he’s doing club duty in the US. But I’d bet he’ll be here after that.

  2. what happened to Drogs or Ronaldinho? Gals need fresh bods. Becks should’ve signed for NY or PSG (extracting any ad work for Qatar 22).

  3. He made the best decision ever, if not the best of his life because PSG was looking to make money from image rights only they weren’t interested in the player playing ability.

  4. Smart move by Beckham. Stay at LA and call your own shots instead of going to PSG and be locked up on their terms. Now he has carte blanche to do whatever he wants on loans, etc.

  5. If that’s all you can derive from the situation, you haven’t been paying attention. PSG offered him $1 million per month (allegedly), and he turned it down. His family has planted roots in LA. He’s old and planning for his kids’ future. Simple as that.

  6. I’ve been working on the same theory, if Becks stays they let LD stay in England until the end of the season. keane comes back for season opener though.

  7. Beckham/Galaxy had a very good year last season. I hope Galaxy/MLS have a minimum game requirement somewhere north of 20 games. Garber or (Lewieke (sp) has been quoted saying they’ll be very accommodating for David’s travels to England both as player and spokesman.

  8. 5 million from Addidas/per year, 5 million from Herbalife/per year. They doubled many ticket prices when he initially signed. 1-2 million per friendly. Besides, his jerseys are still being sold.

  9. good, never thought he would move.. i wonder what his new contract will be worth, don’t get me wrong he was worth the money maybe 2 or 3 of 5 years he was here

  10. Excellent. Even though he downed my Dynamo in the Cup, I’m glad Becks is back in the league.

Also, maybe LA will let LD stay with Everton now.

  11. If they fared better in the off season they would’ve won the MLS Cup. No team fared better in the off season than the Galaxy and that’s why we won.

  12. Getting to the playoffs is easy. If LA misses the playoffs, that means there are real, systemic issues that suddenly emerge over the off season – loss of Juninho and Omar notwithstanding.

Obtaining the SS and MLS Cup will be the real challenge. Seattle was nipping at LA heels all season, and I think they’ve fared better in the off season than LA.

  13. The real MVP returns. Double edged sword… your league’s best player is 36, but he’s also one of the most marketable names in the world.

  14. I wonder how much they are paying him now that the jerseys have already been sold ?

Never really cared that he was here that much, but I am glad he is “back”. Keep LA together, as much as they can at this point, so the victory over them will be even sweeter.

  15. He was the real mvp for la galaxy last season. Perhaps the league? Is de-ro really an mvp if he doesn’t get his team(s) to the playoffs?
