For the U.S. men's and women's national teams, it's a big weekend.
The women kick off their qualifying campaign for the 2012 Olympics Friday night in Canada, going up against the Dominican Republic. Just a couple of days later, Pia Sundhage's charges are at it again, facing Guatemala and hoping to secure maximum points before a final group showdown with Mexico.
As for Jurgen Klinsmann's men, they'll kick off 2012 in Arizona, taking on Venezuela Saturday night as part of the culmination of January training camp.
Across Europe there are plenty of entertaining matches as well, with some of the top teams in England going head-to-head. Arsenal-Manchester United and Manchester City-Tottenham provide two of the more high-profile club games of the weekend. One of the more entertaining bouts, though, could take place in the Netherlands, where Jozy Altidore's AZ Alkmaar and Ajax continue their escalating rivalry with a league match on the heels of their pitch-invader-induced Dutch Cup replay.
Here is this weekend's soccer on TV:

What stream will carry the US vs Venzuela game?
There was a peak around 6-8 years ago when every US game was being shown on some form of English language TV. This recent pattern of hugely important qualifiers (Honduras) on PPV/unavailable, or no English TV (this week), is a regression, not paradise. Sorry dude.
And I get a little miffed when ESPN sets themselves up to bank on the Euros and World Cup and whatnot, calls themselves a bigtime soccer network, and then starts parsing between US games they’ll carry and not carry, such that our choice is the internet or Spanish language telecasts. FWIW, there was a time when a game like this would at least be on Classic. Maybe it’s that this next World Cup will be Disney’s last FIFA tourney til 2022, now that Fox won the rights?
Maybe NBC will step into the breach once they have their MLS broadcast setup together. They already televise plenty of Telemundo soccer under the former Universal now Comcast umbrella.
what channel is galavision on Time Warner? Is it even offered?
I hear ya bro.
Literally any NCAA basketball game will rate higher than USA’s second team. This January camp is great for MLS players in the USA but no other country is really doing it. Don’t like that it’s not on, but can’t fault ESPN.
»I guess I’ll have to violate SOPA…«
Ha! Nice.
To all of you bellyaching because this game or that isn’t on the channel you would like, imagine being a fan in 1995. There wasn’t sh-t on the TeeVee. And lots of soccer until the early Nineties had commercial interruptions. In 1993 I saw a US Nat game that had multiple interruptions for commercials. Even trying to watch the World Cup before 1994, like in 1990 or 1986 was a mess.
Now it’s like paradise…so many options.
BTW. I just learned that those 10am est saturday epl games are blacked out across England in order to preserve paid attendance. In Germany they just use low ticket prices to draw the biggest crowds in soccer.
Hoffenheim isn’t even on ESPN3? I gues I’ll have to violate SOPA…Gyau has been called to the 1st team, may play this week. USA! USA! USA!
hey ives i hope you respond to this post. I am glad you went to Don Mario’s. that place is legendary. the owners are chino-peruanos. plz tell me that you tried their seviche
That was a hard game to watch. The DR team was not even on the level of your average high school team. The goalie was overweight, immobile, and couldn’t even take her own goal kicks. She got so frustrated that she started beating on her defenders. The kick to Krieger’s knee that looks likely to put her out of the Olympics was from pure lack of skill, not malice. The US shouldn’t have had to play a team of this calibre.
Actually she came back on and finished the game. No issue. She’s fine.
14-0 final score.
Still no word on Krieger’s injury.
Alex Morgan left (under her own power) with a right collarbone injury near the end, let’s hope it was just precautionary.
US women up 13-0 after 75 minutes… okay ladies you can take your foot off the gas now.
The concacaf.com stream is good if you want a better feed. I think I’ve seen enough for one night, especially considering the time zone I’m in. You have to register for the concacaf.com streams, but it’s quick (and free).
Heather Mitts singin the lyrics to ” I Get a Good Feelin.” That’s what’s up girlfriend 🙂
My feed is a bit fuzzy but I didn’t see one.
There wasn’t even a card, was there? (Not that bad refereeing in CONCACAF is anything new).
Krieger just got murdered by a nasty challenge. That should be the last game that DR woman plays, Krieger is done.
This isn’t fair.
Stretcher’s out. Krieger carried off with her hands over her face. Mills is coming on.
Krieger down just outside the box, looks to be in a great deal of pain. Got caught high around/above the knee studs up with a late challenge.
I’ll be impressed if Solo scores
7-0, O’Reilly. 31st or 32nd minute. I agree with the commentator: there should be a mercy rule.
6-0, Tobin Heath. Rounded the keeper and side foot into the empty net. 30th minute.
And Wambach again. 5-0, 21 minutes. Oh dear.
I felt bad for Haiti, who lost 6-0 to Canada, but that at least took until the 92nd minute. Even Mexico took 67 minutes to put 5 past Guatemala.
This is like watching the mighty ducks in the second movie.
4-0, O’Reilly, 17th minute.
3-0, Tobin Heath, I think. OK. This is going to get really ugly.
2-0 after less than 4 minutes; off the post and then finished by Lloyd.
USWNT 1-0 after about 30 seconds; Wambach with the header. I predict a rout.
(Side note–why the heck don’t the concacaf.com streams give the time/score info?)
Is this the first English language live broadcast of an EPL game on one of the Big Four networks? I know Fox has aired the Champions League Final live the past couple of years and has aired other EPL games on tape delay but have they aired a live EPL game before now?
Great to see Arsenal vs ManU on live network television.
Great to see Everton is on Fox Soccer Channel (not Plus) again.
Sucks that the US team isn’t on English language television.
Sucks that Hoffenheim isn’t at least available on ESPN3.
streaming quality and credibility. my frindge soccer fans would to watch the game if it was on tv …
College basketball RULES on Saturday nights on ESPN and ESPNU in January, but you already know that.
ESPN2 has Australian Open tennis.
ESPN Classic is reserved for re-runs of ESPN Films on Saturday nights now that the U.S. Justice Department has booted the big online poker rooms from the U.S. market. No more Saturday night poker re-runs.
Thanks. Don’t have it – oh well
Hey Avi:
You forgot about the Mexican matches on the Univision Networks:
http://futbol.univision.com/horarios-por-tv/
Friday 9pm ET – Estudiantes Tecos vs Club America – Galavision
Saturday 6pm ET – Queretaro vs Atlas – Galavision
Saturday 6pm ET – Monterrey vs Pumas – TeleFutura
Saturday 8pm ET – Santos vs Jaguares – TeleFutura
Sunday 1pm ET – Toluca vs Tigres – Univision
Eh, just plug your computer into your tv, stream on espn3 and whats the difference?
ESPN2 has college basketball on Saturday night.
NBC Sports Network doesn’t want junk games such as the January scrimmages.
FOX no longer has a national TV contract with SUM. The tier 2 contract is now with Comcast (NBC and NBC Sports Network.)
Universal Sports Network is NOT the NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus).
Universal Sports is a network filled with Olympic sports. It is only available via digital cable and DIRECTV (Channel 625).
NBC used to give away the channel on digital broadcast (i.e. channel 4.4 in NY and LA), but the free ride ended on December 31.
What is Universal Sports? Is that NBC’s new network (formerly versus)?
Seroiusly – that’s sad. How do we not have the national team on TV – PATHETIC!
I’ll be watching in Spanish or online – can’t keep me from watching my country’s team play, but this pisses me off to no end.
What the hell is going to be on espn and espn2, espnU, espn, classic, etc. that ranks higher than US Soccer?????????
lame
Saw a vid where Moyes was asked to comment on Buddle’s trial at Everton, and Moyes came across very terse, saying he’d have something to say this weekend. I’m not sure that’s good or bad for Buddle.
if espn had the rights to this one (which it appears they do) a better question is why isnt it on espn 2 or at least classic.
Interesting. I’m just wondering why the F it isn’t on FSC. That’s ridiculous.
I have to stick up for my former subrub of residence. The USA-Venezuela game is in Glendale, not Phoenix. It’s a distinction with a tiny difference. Looking forward to the game tomorrow.
