Mid-Day Ticker: Suarez set for return, Ibrahimovic suspended and more

Luis Suarez's spell on the sidelines has come to a close.

Having served his eight-match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra and a one-game suspension for a gesture to Fulham fans, Suarez is set to return for Liverpool on Monday in its game against Tottenham. Suarez's return has manager Kenny Dalglish upbeat, and Dalglish believes Suarez has learned from the ban.

In Suarez's absence, Liverpool has reached the Carling Cup final and FA Cup fifth round but it has struggled in the Premier League.

Here are more stories from Monday:

IBRAHIMOVIC HANDED THREE-MATCH BAN

AC Milan is looking to claim first place in Serie but if they do so in the next few games, it will be without Zlatan Ibrahmiovic. A day after being sent off in a 0-0 draw with Napoli for slapping Salvatore Aronica, Ibrahimovic was handed a three-game suspension. That means he will miss games against third-place Udinese, Cesena and leage leaders Juventus, which have one more point than AC Milan with a game in hand.

SEVILLA SACK MARCELINO

Sevilla is in the hunt for a new head coach after it fired manager Marcelino Garcia Toral. The club has endured a run of poor form in recent weeks, falling to 11th place in La Liga and just four points above the relegation zone. Sevilla's 2-1 loss at home on Sunday to struggling Villarreal was the final nail in the coffin for Marcelino, as a statement issued by the club said the decision was made after the run of results that has seen the club go winless in its last seven matches.

BEST SIDELINED WITH KNEE INJURY

Newcastle United's quest to earn a berth in next season's Champions League has taken a blow. Newcastle will be without striker Leon Best for several weeks after suffering a knee injury in the club's clash with Aston Villa on Sunday. Some local media report the 25-year-old could miss six weeks. Newcastle is currently in fifth place in the Premiership, one point shy of fourth and the Champions League qualifying berth it brings.

  1. I don’t care what the reason — any ban on Ibrahimovic is good by me. I wish the narcisstic a*s could just be permanently banned. What a waste of talent he is as a person.

  2. haha, I like how your first little question at the end of the piece is asking me if I’m pregnant.. No, Ives, I’m not expecting 🙂

  3. Tough to see a guy go down with a knee injury, but I don’t rate Leon Best at all. Leaves them thin up top, but I really don’t think too highly of him.
