What started as a landmark day for Robbie Rogers quickly turned into a forgettable one.

After making his Leeds United debut as a 79th-minute substitute, the U.S. international winger had to be stretchered off the field after a violent head-to-head collision with Doncaster Rovers' Tommy Spurr, one that delayed the game for multiple minutes during second-half stoppage time. Sources told SBI that Rogers suffered a concussion as a result of the collision and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He is said to be doing fine, but there is no definitive timetable for his return.

Leeds, playing under interim manager Neil Redfearn for the final time before former Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock takes over, battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the second half to win 3-2, getting the game-winner on a blast from the edge of the area by Luciano Becchio in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

For Rogers, Saturday marked the second time he had made the matchday roster in five opportunities since completing his transfer to the League Championship side that is in a tight race for a place in the promotion playoffs.

  1. The lad did well in his first appearance yesterday despite the injury. He came on bright and willing. The interim manager thought quite a bit of him to bring him in on a tight match in the IM’s last match. That was quite a compliment. After the game he was quoted as saying Rogers has “immense talent” and expected him to make an impact at Elland Road.We wish the young lad well and hope he gets back on the pitch quickly. MOT

  3. Very perceptive of you. No, not cancer, but it is the guy’s first appearance ever in England in a tight match, he gets knocked cold and is unconscious for several minutes and has to be lugged off the field on stretcher and then is taken to the hospital. A big enough event that the boss of this Web site thought that it warranted a separate news story with a headline, a decision I would call good news judgment. Some of us were worried about Rogers and appreciate the news update. What is your problem with Robbie Rogers anyway? And, by the way, if you are a regular poster here and used a fake pseudonym to make your comment above then some people might think you are a coward.

@Alex. I am not on Twitter. I read Roger’s Tweet on the Web.

  4. Can’t believe Ives, one of his writers, or even a blogpost on his site has referenced Tim Ream’s 90 minute performance in his debut for Bolton. Anyone know how he did?

  5. @Robbie: Good to see your tweet today and glad to see that you appear to be recovered enough to joke about it. I have total respect for your guts to take a chance in Europe with a second league team to follow your dream. Give it your best shot, and whatever happens you will be able to hold your head high. Hoping for the best…

  6. he needs at least a few weeks off, maybe more depending on how bad it is… take it seriously and take the time… not worth your career or rest of your life.
