Vancouver Whitecaps striker Omar Salgado and 2011 CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup qualifying leading scorer Andrew Oliver were among 26 players called in for a U.S. Under-20 training camp by coach Tab Ramos.

The camp begins Monday in Clermont, Fla., lasts until March 1 and includes friendlies against the FC Dallas reserves and the Montreal Impact reserves.

The 18-year-old Salgado maintains his place with the U-20s for another cycle after being part of this past summer's U-20 World Cup qualifying squad. The inclusion of Oliver marks the striker's return to the U.S. set-up after he was dismissed from the U-17 residency program and was left off of the roster for the U-17 World Cup this summer.

Other notable inclusions on the roster include Tigres UANL left back Juan Pablo Ocegueda, who has dual United States-Mexico eligibility; Liverpool striker Villyan Bijev, who is on loan playing for the Fortuna Dusseldorf second team; and U-17 World Cup standouts Alejandro Guido, Mobi Fehr and Alfred Koroma.

Here are the 26 players called into camp:

  1. I’m guessing you didnt see him play at all last fall Chris, cause he played up top as lone striker replacing Will Bruin for IU, and nearly outdid him, scoring 10 goals and 5 assists, top scorer in the Big Ten, and just a freshman. The kid is very very talented, the sky’s the limit. He’ll get called up soon no doubt.

  2. actually Chevy Chase is just a stage name for Cornelius Crane “Chevy” Chase. So really you can’t love it unless you love his sense of humor.

  3. Uhm, yeah Germany would kill Mexico right now. Mexico has no tbeat any top team. Mexico was beat by Argentina what 4-1 in the WC and then Germany beat Argentina 4-0. Mexico is a decent team but no tclose to a top ten team.

  4. It’s a tony suburb. just outside the Washington DC line – and the city had the name long before the comedian/actor. So, you really can’t “love it”, unless you love his parents’ sense of humor.

Hard to believe there are Americans who don’t know these things.

  5. I’m guessing he’s going to start playing a larger role for RSL this year so it’s likely they wanted to keep him right now.

If their plan is to start using Gil more then the playing time he gets under Kreis will be more valuable to his development than a couple u20 camps.

  6. Maybe. He’s also getting a decent amount of time with them this preseason. Hopefully he’ll get time this year and develop well because of it.

  7. I was just thinking the same thing. I had no idea he had been brought into the Chicago academy. Hopefully they’re able to sign him in the future.

  8. Ocegueda was called into Mexico’s U-20 squad for their camp as well, but it looks like he just punked Mexico for the U.S. and will be in the U.S. U-20’s squad. Thats awesome. Notable names missing: Luis Gil(Is he injured anyone know), Jerome Keisewetter, Nico Gaitan, and John Anthony Brooks. Marc pelosi is injured has a MCL strain will be out up to 8 weeks. Overall a very talented roster Ramos has put together. Nice to see Oliver back in the fold that dude is good. All I know is this U-20 team has some sick FWDS highlighted by Salgado, Bijev, Oliver, and Keisewetter(when his club finally allows him to come to these camps.)
