  1. Zambia save. But the GK was off the line, so a re-take. Harsh, I think.

BTW, I see a move for Mayuka from Switzerland in the near future. Excellent young player.

  2. Barca were certainly the best team on the planet. But they’re still obligated to, you know, play the matches out.

For all we know, barca would have won that series without rvp being sent off. It’s probable even.

Its the way their victory unfolded that left me bitter. My sour grapes have nothing to do with the epl. They have everything to do with feeling cheated out of what would have been an incredible half hour of desperate, elimination football.

  3. Penalty to Ivory Coast! Skied over by Drogba, who sheepishly gestures to the spot afterwards, like there was a divot there or something that prevented him from putting it on net. Row Z.

  4. I just find it sad for Americans to buy into the losing side sour grapes of EPL teams over the years as concerns Barcelona.

This is an all-time team that at its best literally makes the best teams on the planet look like complete crap. It’s won everything there is to win, including the World Cup while its players were moonlighting.

We need to distance ourselves from dysfunctional English attitudes that haven’t served them well.

  5. It’s tough to be champions, and the anointed ones. In a single match, or a home and home, I’ll take Barca against anyone. But over a long season, it’s tough to be Barca every day. For everyone else, it’s the game of the year, for you it’s a Saturday against Osasuna. And in a game where ten seconds over 90 minutes can make the difference…

Barca has nothing to prove, they’ve done it all. Real is hungry and wants the title more. It’s that simple.

  6. You could argue that this latest Barca run began with Spain’s 2008 Euro Championship win. Four years is a very long run.

Since then the Spain/Barca core has been basically unbeatable but every great eventually ends. Little things that used to go for you go against you and all those narrow wins become narrow ties or losses.

At that level football is just too competitive.

  7. You don’t seem to like Arsenal/RVP, so I won’t argue about him being spoiled (I’m neutral on Arsenal and Barca). But even if he had heard the whistle, I don’t think van Persie could have stopped himself from striking the ball. To give a player a second yellow in the second half of the second leg of a Champions League game is absolutely absurd and unjust. But we can agree to disagree. 🙂

  8. Again away goals beat me to the punch, but yes, they most certainly could have won. They would have gone through if the score remained the same when RVP was sent off. Style points don’t matter. And for all their possession, Barca was having a hell of a time finding the back of the net. Cool story, indeed.

  9. unjustly sent off? he earned it by being the spoiled little player he was back then, firing from absurd distance and then saying he didn’t hear the whistle? then why not attack the goal instead of blasting petulently?

the difference in his season this year is his maturity, which I would argue was progressed tremendously by having to face his gaffe in that game…which I give him credit for doing

    of ocurse you’ll disagree…all good 🙂

    cheers

  10. One of the reasons that Barcelona is dropping matches is because Pep is extremely dedicated to building new players. Yesterday’s match saw Cesc, Xavi and Iniesta benched for some Barca B players.

Add that to fatigue, injuries, teams gunning for you and a lack of chemistry and you get upsets.

By the way, it was Osasuna.

  11. Which by the way explains even more his attributes I described. All the mentality of the SPL, none of it’s thuggery and lack of skill.
