Earthquakes cruise to win over Toronto

As far as home openers go, Toronto FC and its fans endured a rough one.

After finding out that goalkeeper Stefan Frei would be out for up to 10 weeks with a broken leg on Saturday, Toronto FC fell to 0-2 on the season with a 3-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes at BMO Field.

Some shaky Toronto defending allowed for Chris Wondolowski to score twice in the match, and he could have had a third if not for hitting a wide open shot off the near post in the second half. Wondolowski now has three goals on the season, picking up where he left off last year.

Shea Salinas scored the other goal for the Earthquakes, which are now 2-1 on the season.

Here are the match highlights:

What do you think of the Earthquakes' 3-0 victory? Do you see Wondolowski scoring more goals than he did last season? What does Toronto need to do to fix its back line?

  1. Very disappointing game by TFC. Frings absence was felt, with a backline like this, we are guaranteed to concede at least 2 goals a game. I heard that Former fire defender Bakary Soumare might be coming back to the league this summer and that Toronto is very interested. He would be a great addition to this team.

  2. TFC didn’t look good particularly to me, I’ve seen worse Toronto performances believe me but good is a stretch

  3. Just had to hit that post on what could have been your 3rd goal of the game. No hat trick…….so disappointed in you, Wondo. The only way Wondo will get called up by Klinnsman now is if he keeps scoring hat tricks….cuz obviously, just leading the league in goals for two straight year aint cutting it for Klinnsman…How Bunbury gets called up is a mystery????

  4. TFC looked good for large stretches of this game. You can see what Winter is trying to to do with the club. Unfortunately, they’ve yet to get the players in the back to truly make it work. Frings helps and his absence was definitely felt today.

SJ looks like they’ll fare better this year, thought I have my doubts about them. We’ll see how they fare against Seattle next weekend.

  5. I vote it’s time for a US Canada thread. And also those poor Toronto fans, I really had high hopes for TFC this year. Maybe when Frings gets back
