The Montreal Impact had a lot to celebrate about in their MLS home opener, but winning their first game was not one of them.

Playing in front of a record crowd of 58,912 at Olympic Stadium, the Impact scored their first MLS goal and looked poised for victory before the Chicago Fire pulled level to secure a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.

Impact captain Davy Arnaud etched his name into the history books when he scored Montreal's first goal in the league off a cross from Sanna Nyassi in the 56th minute. Fire forward Dominic Oduro negated that headed finish 15 minutes later, getting on the end of a pass from Sebastian Grazzini and knocking it into the back of the net.

The draw marked the season opener for Chicago (0-0-1) and kept Montreal (0-1-1) winless through its first two games in MLS.

  1. Yes, MLS has arrived. But ESPN and the rest of the networks failed to run MLS scores on the news crawl. Average MLS attendance is better than the NHL and NBA. Certainly MLS stadiums are outside an no one is paying big bucks for a ticket. Lets enjoy the cheap entertainment while it lasts. We are just a short time away before MLS starts pricing itself the way the NFL does.

  2. Nope. The MLS has arrived. Join the party and Grazzini was hacked just a much as Felipe and other attacking mids are in MLS and all other leagues around the world. Should the ref give everyone a red on Montreal for looking at him.

  3. Grazzini. Class above 90% of The league. Flair and precision dispite being hacked all game long and not given any protection from the ref. Ref was totally intge bag for Montreal. Grazing hacked about 5 times and no cards given to protect him. He chases the ball back once and make a slight foul and he gets a card. If special players like him get hurt it greatly diminishes the league. That’s what will happen thou. Sadly nothing has changed and it’s still a hack a man league.

Montreal can pat themselves on the back bit with a decent ref the Fire win this one.

  4. Nyassi was my man of the match. He was very dangerous. A bit weak on finishing, but was always involved in the action.

The crowd was great! I’m glad to see Canada doing so well at the gates in all three cities!
