Revolution sign Runstrom

The New England's Revolution's front line is making way for yet another new face.

The Revs signed Swedish striker Bjorn Runstrom on Wednesday, adding another player to a completely revamped attack. Runstrom joins Saer Sene, Jose Moreno, Fernando Cardenas and Blake Brettschneider as new forwards who have joined the club since the offseason.

The 28-year-old Runstrom had been training with the club during the preseason, as he played in the Desert Diamond Cup and scored a goal against Real Salt Lake. He was most recently on his second stint with Swedish club Hammarby and has had brief stops with Chievo Verona, Fiorentina and Fulham in his well-traveled career.

"Bjorn’s signing provides us another attacking option and some flexibility on the field,” Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a team release. "He has extensive experience in Europe and he fit in well with our group in Arizona when he was training with us."

What do you think of the signing? Do you think the Revs' forward corps is good enough to compete in the East?

  1. I find it amusing that Berhalter leaves here and goes there, then Runstrom leaves there and comes here.

I’d expect from his CV for him to be battle-tested but probably not all that productive.

  2. Arrrrgg! No disrespect to these players, but honest to goodness, why does it feel like this team is constantly shopping WalMart when it has Neiman Marcus income? Why even bother having a team if you aren’t interested in seriously competing?

  3. Gregg Berhalter, now at the helm of Hammaby and in the 2nd division, told Runstrom to take a hike. Runstrom underperformed mightily least season for Hammarby and apparently was a big cancer within the team. Maybe that was situational and wasn’t indicative of his character but whatever the case a black cloud is hanging over him. A change of leagues, a new start might be the remedy Runstrom needs. I’m skeptical but for the Revs sake I hope it works out.
