SBI MLS Rookie of the Week: Tony Cascio

The Colorado Rapids are off to an impressive 2-0 start to the 2012 season and one of the players instrumental to that good start is rookie Tony Cascio.

The UConn product has found a starting role on the veteran Rapids side and done well with the opportunity. On Sunday, he played like a veteran in Colorado's 2-1 victory against Philadelphia. Cascio provided the eventual game-winning goal when he stripped Chris Albright and finished off a beautiful goal for his first MLS score.

The performance made Cascio the clear-cut choice for SBI MLS Rookie of the Week, beating out a list of candidates that included D.C. United's Nick DeLeon and Real Salt Lake's Sebastian Velasquez.

What did you think of Cascio's performance? What rookie impressed you in MLS Week 2?

  1. FSL developed Casey? Mastroeni? Moor? Wynne? Cummings? Larentowicz?

Though I find it ironic that two of the best players on FSL were developed by the Rapids (Beckerman and Borchers).

  2. Despite their track record, it’s still a bit hard to believe RSLers would whine about even this.

Good for Cascio and for any team with the foresight to want him and take him.

  3. Relax bud, inviting top talent to play on your team for one or two years is not developing anything. Your lucky MLS let you move your academy to AZ

  4. It seems like Paraja was the only one rating Cascio before the draft, surprised most of us when he was picked and when he started both games but he has been great so far

  5. it was his choice to enter the draft BEFORE they could sign him as a homegrown player.

i don’t agree with the draft, in theory, but i guess we can still benefit from it this time.

  6. My thoughts are that Cascio shouldn’t even be with Colorado. RSL should have been able to HG tag him.

In any case, though, glad that he has hit the ground running.
