Friday Kickoff: Gatt hurt, Rogers out for final Leeds matches and more

If there is a knock on up-and-coming American winger Josh Gatt it is his propensity for injury, and it seems as if the injury bug has caught the 20-year-old speedster yet again.

After missing Molde's match this past week against Viking, Gatt has been ruled out for the club's clash with Luke Rodgers' Lillestrom SK on Monday with an unspecified muscle strain, according to the club's official website.

Gatt, who played every minute in the club's opening three matches and scored in the season opener, suffered a tear to his hamstring toward the end of last season that caused him to miss the last month and a half of the campaign, and he also had an ankle injury that prevented him from taking part in the U.S. Under-23 national team's February training camp. Considering his importance to Molde, the club is likely to be cautious before rushing the Michigan native back into the lineup.

Here are a few more stories to get your day going:

Robbie Rogers will be hoping for a fresh start with Leeds United in his first full season with the club, because his first few months in England have been anything but smooth.

Rogers has been ruled out for the remainder of Leeds season after suffering an ankle injury just 12 minutes into his first start last weekend. The club is reportedly waiting to find out if his ankle is fractured, which would delay his comeback even further, but regardless, he will not play in Leeds' final two matches.

Rogers missed a good portion of the last few months after suffering a concussion in his first appearance with the club as well.

Sporting Lisbon's mission to prevent an all-Spanish UEFA Europa League final is halfway complete.

The Portuguese side upended Athletic Bilbao 2-1 in the first leg of their semifinal tie on Thursday, getting late goals from Emiliano Inusa and Diego Capel to take a slight edge heading into the second leg. Athletic Bilbao still remains very much alive after Jon Aurtenetxe's away goal, which sets the stage for a tense return leg. Oguchi Onyewu made his return to the Sporting matchday roster for the first time since undergoing knee surgery, but he did not play.

In Thursday's other Europa League semifinal, Colombian striker Radamel Falcao continued his impressive season by scoring twice to lead Atletico Madrid to a 4-2 win over Valencia.

Valencia maintains a glimmer of hope after Ricardo Costa scored a big second away goal in the dying moments of stoppage time, as the series now shifts to Estadio Mestalla.

Didier Drogba played an integral role in Chelsea's 1-0 victory over Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal this week, but if the Blues are to pick up three big points in league play, they will have to do it without him.

Drogba has reportedly been ruled out for Chelsea's match against Arsenal on Saturday with a knee injury that he picked up in the victory, and he will be reevaluated before Tuesday's crucial second leg in Barcelona.

His absence likely paves the way for Fernando Torres to lead the front line against Arsenal with Chelsea needing a win to get back into the picture for next year's European competition. The Blues currently sit in sixth place, two points behind both Tottenham and Newcastle with five games remaining.

What do you think of Gatt being hurt again? Disappointed with how Rogers' first few months with Leeds unfolded? Who do you see advancing to the Europa League final? Think Chelsea can beat Arsenal without Drogba?

Here is a question: Would you rather have Clint Dempsey or Fernando Torres on your team?

Now, how about Chelsea taking a look at the American who is playing on across town and doing whatever it takes to get him in a blue shirt!

Best of luck to Sporting CP. Although he probably won’t play in any of the remaining games, it would still be cool to see Gooch win a European trophy.

Demps for sure and id use the millions in savings to build a team around him. Also fulham isnt cross town its more like a stones throw from stanford bridge. That said i dont see demps at chelsea, maybe a spot opens up once drogba moves but he is a different player. My guess is arsenal, dortmond, schalke or juventus.

I believe Rogers first injury was at Heathrow when he tripped over a baggage cart.
