Rapids lock up Larentowicz with multi-year deal

Jeff Larentowicz is not going anywhere anytime soon.

The Colorado Rapids made sure of that by locking up the integral central midfielder to a multi-year deal on Friday, the terms of which were not disclosed.

Larentowicz has had success ever since joining the Rapids ahead of the 2010 season. He won an MLS Cup with the club in his first season in Colorado and has been called into three consecutive U.S. men's national team January camps, collecting four caps. During this past offseason, he spent time training with Bolton before returning to Colorado for his third season as a member of the Rapids.

While proving himself to be one of the premiere defensive midfielders in the league, Larentowicz has started all but one of the 70 games in which he's played for Colorado.

"We needed his strong play and leadership to win MLS Cup, and the United States National Team has also seen his value," Rapids technical director Paul Bravo said in a team release. "We’re thrilled that he’ll continue in our midfield for years to come."

Happy to see Larentowicz stay in Colorado?

  2. Awesome! Good to have Jeff locked up. Rapids depth is looking its best ever this year. Casey comes back this week v. Chivas. Two more new players joining the team. Can’t wait for the wins to start piling up.

  3. Mike Burns…. take notes on how to resign a good player. Had you only paid him what he’s worth, he wouldn’t be in Colorado now

  4. We came back and won every game that it occured in, which made it even better. He definitely wasn’t saluting the sparse Colorado fans in the crowd, rather the thousands of home supporters.

  5. There are certainly Colorado fans in those stands, somewhere.

If you don’t like it, support a team that doesn’t let Colorado score on them.

  6. Solid player, but god I hate him. There have been 3 or 4 instances where in my teams home games against the Rapids they have scored, and rather than celebrate with the team he has directed his attention to the fans, with some lame gestures aimed at outraging and riling us up. It wasn’t even him scoring.

At first I thought it was just some kind of personal vendetta he had against us but I saw him do the same exact thing to the Timbers Army. Lame.

In conclusion, I hate him. He looks like Quentin Tarantino’s uglier-and-gingerier-yet-more-athletic younger brother.

Although, he probably gets picked on quite a bit by home fans for his playing style and the fact that he’s a redhead. Easy target. So maybe thats why he focuses on the crowd rather than his team.

  7. I mean the US team has seen his value as a practice dummy. He isn’t going to play for the US in any real games, but it’s a good move for Colorado. He has been very good for them.

  8. Bolton sure could have used him once Muamba went down. It would have been neat to see him providing defensive cover for Ream the past few months. Sure couldn’t have done worse than the CDM and CM help Bolton currently has
