SBI MLS Best XI: Week Four

The process of selecting the SBI MLS Best XI is starting to become a challenge to see who will join Thierry Henry on the squad each week.

The New York Red Bulls striker put in another outstanding performance to earn SBI MLS Player of the Week honors again, and lead the selections for MLS Best XI for Week Four. Joining him this week are a trio of players from D.C. United and tandems from New England and San Jose.

Only one player who suffered a defeat last week made the squad, and that was none other than highlight goal-scoring Portland midfielder/forward Darlington Nagbe, who would have tasted victory with the Timbers had RSL and fellow MLS Best XI selection Kyle Beckerman didn't pull off a jaw-dropping comeback.

Here is SBI's MLS Best XI for Week Four:

  1. Seeing Marvell Wynne make the best 11 is a good thing.
There was a time when Bradley was trying him at R-back for the USMNT and he may yet develop into a good Nat team prospect. He has speed and vision – but his crossing was suspect and defensively had a tendency to lose his mark, get turned, and have his “back eaten.”
As Cherundolo ages out of the depth chart, perhaps we will see Wynne return to the mix.

  2. I’d say Teemu Tainio. He replaced Marquez, and his work helped NY dominate Montreal. He made that much of a difference, in my view.

  3. Ok, but who does Zusi replace? De Leon and Nagbe were both absolutely critical to their team’s attack and were a terror all night long, and Joseph was exceptional in helping a young New England team go into the HDC and steal points from LA.

I watched the SKC game and it was domination from start to finish, so he does at least deserve a spot on the HM list.

  4. Agree on Zusi. You’ve got to watch the games, not just read box scores, if you’re doing a best XI. Four games into it, Zusi is everything SKC could have hoped for, and then some. I still wish they had another good back-up CAM (don’t trust Nagamura), but as long as Zusi is healthy SKC will continue to get a zillion shots per game. The man is the MLS’s creative beast.

  5. Pretty clear he didn’t see the SKC/Chivas game. Zusi bossed the midfield, and while Sapong scored, he wasn’t spectacular. Zusi was clearly MOTM (and has been best attacking mid in the league thus far, by a large margin).
