SBI MLS Player of the Week: Maicon Santos

When the 2012 MLS season began, D.C. United figured to be a team capable of scoring goals in bunches. What most wouldn't have predicted is that Maicon Santos would be leading the charge as the team's top scorer.

All the former FC Dallas striker has done is emerge as the target forward the team has been yearning for, providing a physical presence up top capable of putting pressure on defenses and finishing chances. He did just that yet again on Saturday, scoring the opening goal and the game-winning goal in D.C. United's 3-2 victory against Eastern Conference rival Houston. That performance made Santos the pick for SBI MLS Player of the Week.

There were several worthy candidates this week, but Santos edged out the likes of Steven Lenhart, Ryan Meara and Kyle Beckerman for this week's honors.

What did you think of Santos' performance? Who got your vote for MLS Player of the Week?

  1. Santos was a good choice, but my second choice is Alonso of Seattle. They would have just one win without him. He shuts down every CAM every week.

  2. Steven Lenhart’s goal near the death was amazing

If De Ro would have made his goal on his half field run that would have made him player of the week and possible goal of the year winner

    Go DC!!

  3. DCU team of the week, Maicon player of the week, and still smiling from a 4-1 thrashing of NYRB. Good to keep seeing the black and red showing up (in a good way) on SBI!
