SBI MLS Team of the Week: New England Revolution

The New England Revolution made some noise this weekend, as they did not just beat the Los Angeles Galaxy. They did so in convincing fashion, which earned them the SBI MLS Team of the Week award.

Playing without the injured Benny Feilhaber, the Revolution went into the Home Depot Center and defeated a Landon Donovan-less Los Angeles Galaxy, 3-1. Chris Tierney, rookie Kelyn Rowe and Saer Sene all scored to put New England up 3-0 before a late goal from the hosts.

The Revolution, which are now 2-2 this season after winning their second consecutive game, edged out the New York Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake and D.C. United for this week's honors.

What do you think of New England being Team of the Week? Should some other team have won the award?

  1. thank you for mentioning the fact that the Revs were missing Benny Feilhaber. Most all of the articles I’ve read mention that Donovan was missing, often in the headline, but many don’t even mention that one of the Revs best players were missing, never mind the fact that they haven’t had their full squad available yet this season.

  2. Good point about Nguyen. The Revs are getting much better wing play this year, whoever’s out there – Guy, Nguyen, Rowe, Tierney – really opening things up.

  3. This was the first time I’ve been impressed with the play of Lee Nguyen shince he was a U-20 player. He played actually looked like a soccer player.

  4. Tierney’s become such an interesting player for the Revs. From local player to Virginia to supplemental draft pick and, at this point, into a pretty decent wide player. I kept thinking he wasn’t enough of a defender for left back, but not really fast enough to play left mid. That’s offset by the experience now of knowing his spots, and he’s one of the best in the league at delivering a cross or a free kick. I like seeing progress this season, after all the false starts the past couple years. Especially since there are some key players yet to make an impact due to injuries. The Revs are very interesting right now.

As for LA – you can really see the hole that Omar Gonzalez’ injury leaves them with.

  5. Revs earned this. No argument for another team, not over this storyline. No one, anywhere – including me and most other Revs fans – expected a result like this one. I was hoping for an upset, or at least a draw like last year, but I knew I couldn’t expect one. Without Donovan, LA still has two high-profile, capped DPs on the field. Revs, meanwhile, missing Feilhaber, and not having won a game outside their time zone since 2009? Come on, this upset is definitely the biggest news of the weekend, and the Revs easily earn team of the week.

  6. very nice to get the nod, especially when just about everyone wrote the Revs off. They’re still in a rebuilding process obviously, but this is a much different squad from last year’s with a new style of play. It’ll be a tough task for them to get to the playoffs but this is a better team than people have been assuming.
