Sporting KC vs. LA Galaxy: Match Day Commentary

Sporting Kansas City has started the season in perfect fashion, winning every match they've played, but today will offer a different kind of test as they take on the LA Galaxy at Livestrong Sporting Park (4pm, ESPN).

The Galaxy come into today's match struggling, with a 1-2 start a product of some shaky defending and midfield play. David Beckham is out for today with back spasms and didn't make the trip, but Landon Donovan is back for the Galaxy.

Sporting KC will look to test that shaky Galaxy defense, with MLS assist leader Graham Zusi being key to breaking down LA.

SBI will be providing live commentary on today's match, so please feel free to follow along here. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

  1. Keane is overrated, Buddle is outclassed, Beckham is too old and Donovan is wondering what the hell is going on. Appears to be a bad mix this year for LA. It’s time to rethink the starting eleven.

  2. God I love seeing the stars of MLS (I mean Galexy struggle) they flat out suck this year, I guess the saying money can’t buy you love is somewhat true this year. 3 points in four matches does not bode well for L.A.

  3. Glad to see Donovan take down kamara, best thing he did all game. Galaxy looked terrible, no urgency to their play…. so bad! What the hell is going on this season.

Oh, and the ref was complete crap and should be banned from ref’n anymore. Isn’tt there a ref board that is suppose to review these problems??

  4. Why was there a soccer writers consensus that the Galaxy would easily repeat? Why do they fall into conformity so easily? Here’s to the fans who had the freedom and intelligence to predict the troubles that the Galaxy would have this season.

Twellman finally got around to it in the 2nd half, saying, with this team Galaxy need to outscore opponents.

  5. This is the worst galaxy team I have watched play. They make me sick, its like they dont even care. Walking around, kicking the ball to the other team or out of bounds every other time they touch it. No effort at all. Sick, sick, sick! I bet summer transfer window Keane is looking to run out of LA.

  6. Wow, the Galaxy are really bad. The players have put in zero effort, and the coaching and tactics have been horrendous.

  7. LA can’t control the midfield, and don’t have the speed to threaten on the counter. But as long as KC can’t convert a 2nd goal they’re still lurking, and Donovan/Keane can still turn a game in an instant.

  8. Sean Franklin is the worst out of the entire back 4 I think though. He has looked horrible defending and even worse going forward.

  9. I agree, they’ve been horrible today, I haven’t seen Juninho play well all year though so it’s not a surprise to me. I’ve never rated Stephens.

  10. Stephens-Juninho partnership really not working. Pull Stephens, slide Donovan to the middle to make him involved, and put on Noonan?

Buddle’s touch has been off all day too. LA is getting run, Saunders is keeping them in this game.

  11. I really like this KC attack with Kamara/Sapong/Zusi in the middle and Convey and Meyers on the outside. I hope they stay healthy, they are a credit to the league.

Donovan is having zero impact on this game.

  12. This is my first look at the KC stadium; looks top notch: the venue, the atmosphere, kudos, guys!
Soccer-specific stadiums make a huge difference (just don’t build them in Frisco or Commerce City).
    Great finish by Kamara, btw!

  13. Agreed. Nice crowd. Impressive. I’m really bullish about the long term health of MLS when I see crowds like this.

  14. Another great showing by the KC fans today. They deserve this fun offensive team, they are my favorite team to watch in the eastern conference.

Props to Bobby Convey on the assist!

  15. I hear there is a fantastic sequence where Elton John reworks “Candle in the Wind” in honor of Jay when Watford are promoted.

  16. I saw it. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Girl I took with me enjoyed it too and she’s not a huge soccer fan. It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty good.

  17. Hope Dunivent is ok, looks like a head clash, hopefully no concussion, but could easily be.

LA looking strong early, but for my money Zusi has been the best player early on.
