Cardenas scores first MLS goal as Revolution top Rapids

It took over a month, but the New England Revolution have gotten another taste of victory.

First-half goals from Saer Sene and Fernando Cardenas were good enough to give the Revolution a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday night, marking the first time they have come out victorious since their upset win over the Los Angeles Galaxy in late March.

Jaime Castrillon gave Colorado the lead when he headed home a Martin Rivero corner in the 21st minute, but the Revolution responded six minutes later when Sene scored off an acrobatic side volley from about eight yards out.

Sene then turned from scorer to provider, assisting on Cardenas' first MLS goal in the 39th minute. The Colombian midfielder received a pass from Sene on the right side of the penalty area, created some space for himself and lofted a left-footed shot over Matt Pickens for the decisive finish.

With the win, New England improves to 3-5 on the season while the result drops the Rapids under .500 at 4-5.

  1. Not the prettiest win but they really needed the 3 points. Sene was my MOTM, with Cardenas & Soares at close second and third (Reis deserves some props as well). With RSL away up next, I guessing this is a 1 game for the Revs.
