Late Gordon goal helps Quakes tie Chivas

Chris Wondolowski did not score or assist on a goal for the first time in eight games. That didn't mean that the San Jose Earthquakes didn't have anybody else to pick up the slack and rescue a point at home.

Alan Gordon headed home a cross from rookie Sam Garza to burn Chivas USA, one of his former clubs, in the 88th minute and salvage a 1-1 draw for the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium Sunday night.

Chivas (3-6-1) stunned San Jose (7-2-2) from the start, with new Colombian forward Jose Erick Correa marking his first MLS start with a goal in the fourth minute off a cross from right back James Riley. Chivas hardly threatened after that point, though, with the Earthquakes dominating the ball while seeking the equalizer. Dan Kennedy came up big a number of times to rob the hosts as part of his five-save outing, but there was nothing he could do to stop Gordon's free header, which prevented Chivas from what would have been a league-leading fourth road win.

  1. when he plays, he scores- for the Earthquakes at least! hope he stays healthy- he’s really done pretty well with his hold up play and passing in the few minutes played so far this year.

nice to avoid a second straight loss, and even w/ 2 games in-hand on RSL, just HATE not to win at home- especially with LA and SKC later this month

  2. Frustrating game Quakes controlled the game and set up several great opportunities. Great game by Kennedy. It felt like Lenny & Wondo were a off just a bit, but its good to be reassured Wondo is human and not a robot. lol

  3. Quakes are reverting to their pattern from last year of giving up goals early in a game. Please get well quickly, Victor Bernardez! We need you back in the center defense to cover for those gaping holes that appear when Ramiro gets stranded upfield.
