SBI MLS Best XI: Week Ten

The New York Red Bulls moved into first place in the Eastern Conference thanks to their two-win week last week, and three players who have been instrumental in the team's four-match winning streak were front and center yet again.

Ryan Meara, Kenny Cooper and Dax McCarty were all vital to the Red Bulls' victories against Houston and Philadelphia, and all three earned spots on SBI's MLS Best XI for Week 10 because of it.

Real Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman is back in what has become a regular spot on the Best XI, but this week he is joined by teammate Jamison Olave, who was instrumental in RSL posting a pair of shutouts last week.

David Beckham makes an appearance this week, not just for his outstanding equalizer against Montreal, but for an impressive overall body of work against the Impact.

Here is SBI's MLS Best XI for Week 10:

  1. Good call on the Crew’s Sebastian Miranda — his bullet header from outside the box on Saturday definitely should be showcased as a “must-see goal.” But you missed the mark by omitting Justin Meram from the “honorable mention” list — he had an outstanding game (a real threat all night long) and punctuated it with his first MLS goal, a long-range blast to rival Brad Davis’s golazo for the Dynamo.

  2. I was wondering the same thing. At least HM. His second yellow was questionable at best. Nobody on this list had a better one half performance than he did

  3. Marquez has no place in the HM list. Yes, he played one good ball over the top, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s slow and sloppy with the ball. He nearly gave a goal back by dawdling on the ball, and he was exposed for pace by Adu on multiple occasions (could have been catastrophic in the 2nd half if Adu hadn’t been shown the red) The RBs are better with Dax in the DM spot, and Rafa injured or suspended (or sold somewhere in Brazil or wherever they’ll overspend on a player well past his prime).

  4. Hey! Don’t Questions Ives! He was, after all, the one who said that RBNY got ripped off when they traded for Kenny Cooper!

    Oh…right..

  5. If Ryan Meara wins MLS rookie of the year, hopefully he gives a Tyson Chanler-esque acceptance speech, thanking his shaky defense for allowing him so many chances to look good.

  6. I can remember thinking Beckerman was a non factor in the game.

Johnson was only able to keep Rosales down after he was hacked again in the first 5 mintues of the game. So his already sore foot probably affected him.

Of course no card for a late challenge, so much for protecting playmakers.

  7. Freddy Adu put forth probably one of the top 3 performances in the MLS this season… in one half.

How does he not make this list?

  8. as an FCD fan I know we are not going to see anybody on this list but it was weird looking at it. Four of the players either grew up in Dallas or played for FCD at some point. Great to see they are all doing so well but to bad it is not in Dallas.

  9. Also Pajoy missed three good chances in addition to his two goals. Better work from him and Philly wins. I would’ve put Adu on the bench based on his first half performance alone.

  10. Gaddis was okay but he got bullied and beaten by Ballouchy for the first RBNY goal. He’s played just fine (certainly above average for a rookie), but I can’t imagine that his performance last weekend was one of the league’s best.

  11. Anytime Beckerman is chosen over Alonso one can suspect hallucinogens or other illegal drugs. In the Seattle game Beckerman wasn’t the best RSL midfielder. Ives needs to do random testing.
