SBI MLS Player of the Week: Emilio Renteria

The Columbus Crew are enjoying a strong run of form lately, and the leading figure behind the team's recent victories has been Venezuelan striker Emilio Renteria.

The Crew defeated Seattle and Chicago this past week and Renteria found the net in both victories, assisting on a goal before delivering a beautiful striker in the Crew's 2-0 win at Seattle, then scoring the eventual game-winning goal against the Fire. Those efforts made Renteria an easy pick for this week's SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.

Renteria beat out a field that included Real Salt Lake's Alvaro Saborio and Sporting KC's Kei Kamara.

What did you think of Renteria's performance? Who was your pick this week for SBI MLS Player of the Week?

  1. The Seattle game wasn’t his greatest, but giving the assurance goal against the Sounders was a huge lift. The Chicago Fire match my daughter and I saw live and I can tell you he played deservingly giving his team mate Eddie Gaven a nice feed for the inital first goal and playing hard and fast being part of a lot of touches that game.

  2. I don’t know how Kamara wasn’t POTW. He absolutely dominated that game. Granted, I didn’t see the Crew game so I don’t know first hand how Renteria played but he must’ve been unbelievable to beat out Kamara because I thought that was the performance of the season so far
