SBI MLS Rookie of the Week: Ryan Meara

The month of May seems to be Ryan Meara's for the taking.

The New York Red Bulls goalkeeper continued his string of strong performances for the club in a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact on Saturday, and his five-save performance in that game earned him SBI MLS Rookie of the Week honors for a third consecutive week.

Philadelphia Union fullback Ray Gaddis, who put in a 90-minute shift in a 1-1 draw versus FC Dallas, was also in contention for the award.

What do you think of Meara winning SBI's MLS Rookie of the Week award again? Think he will be Rookie of the Year? How impressed have you been by his performances?

  1. I think when all is said and done, it’s going to be hard picking between Meara, DeLeon, and Cascio for rookie of the year. Each has been doing great in their respective position. I think if DeLeon can get healthy in a hurry and pick up where he left off, he’s going to be the one to secure it.

  2. Isn’t it a little early to be handing out Rookie of the Year awards? There is still a lot of soccer yet to be played…

  3. The hair is distracting to strikers. The save skills are devestating to them. He’s been rock solid all year, and certainly doesn’t look like a rookie out there.
