U.S. U-20 forward Kiesewetter signs with Stuttgart

Another young American prospect in Germany has signed a long-term contract that secures the next step on his career path.

Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart announced Wednesday that they have signed U.S. Under-20 forward Jerome Kiesewetter through 2016, with the player moving to the team from recently relegated Hertha Berlin. He leaves behind young Americans Alfredo Morales and John Anthony Brooks, who appear set to compete for time in the 2. Bundesliga next season.

Kiesewetter, a 19-year-old German-American from Berlin, was a part of the initial combined U-23/U-20 camp held in Germany after Caleb Porter's appointment as U-23 coach but has not been part of a U.S. camp since. He also participated in the 2011 Milk Cup as a member of the U.S. U-18 national team. Kiesewetter played for Hertha Berlin's U-19 and reserve sides this past season, and he joins Joe Gyau (Hoffenheim), Andrew Wooten (Kaiserslautern) and Timmy Chandler (Nurnberg) as young U.S.-eligible internationals who have recently signed long-term deals with German clubs.

  1. You have NO idea how easy it is for American servicemen in Germany. NO IDEA.

Easily the most coveted assignment in the US Armed Forces.

  3. When do our troops find time to train over there? It seems like they spend more time focused in meeting the local women.

Time for us to open a base in Brazil!

  4. Well that’s obviously a great vote of confidence in a young player. I read a recent article that said Hertha was in the process of converting him to defender. I’m curious if that will continue at Stuttgart.
