Buddle has knee surgery, will miss the next 3-to-6 weeks

For those thinking that something was physically off with Los Angeles Galaxy forward Edson Buddle, that appears to have been the case.

Buddle underwent right knee surgery Monday to repair damage to his right meniscus, the Galaxy announced on Tuesday. The injury will cause him to miss the next 3-to-6 weeks and comes at a time when Robbie Keane is on Euro 2012 duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Buddle has struggled since returning to the Galaxy after a stint in Germany, accounting for just two goals and an assist in 12 games this season after contending for the Golden Boot in 2010. With him on the mend and Keane out, the onus falls on the likes of Landon Donovan, Chad Barrett, Pat Noonan and Adam Cristman to carry the load up top. Donovan is currently on international duty too, but the Galaxy don't play again until five days after the final U.S. World Cup qualifier of this month.

The Galaxy also announced that Dan Keat underwent the same procedure last week, and the timetable for his return his the same as Buddle's.

  1. Arena is not creative enough to do it. His idea of reinforcements is bringing in washed-up vets like Noonan, Christman, Barrett, Kirovski, Clint Mathis, etc.

  2. I agree with you guys mostly about Buddle, but let’s face it. Keane and the rest of the DP million dollar boys haven’t proved anything. They look tired, uninterested just as much as Buddle and their form is just simply horrid. Their manager is just as guilty. It’s time for ownership to take a hard look at what’s really going on.

  3. Interesting that you mentioned Wooten because the push button sarcastic response to this news around here would be “I smell callup.”

The problem with loans into MLS is they have to fit within the cap like everyone else. It is done: Landin. But you still have to fit in and afford the salary, maybe clear cap space.

Part of LA’s problem is that as we all remember they had to allocate and skimp just to collect the present bunch. There is only so much to move left which is why they’re stuck making and pondering cheap acquisitions.

Mind you, they could sell Landon or otherwise free cash but they’d have to blow up the team even further to do that.

  4. Self-inflicted. Like LA completely forgot they won without him, didn’t take the silverware with him. Right up there with not adequately replacing Gonzo in terms of why they are where they are.

  5. That’s unfortunate, but it isn’t as if E.Bud’s been producing goals. But wow, what horrible timing with Keane at the Euros. Now’s a great time for Arena to play McBean and Villareal.

  6. as someone who is not a Galaxy fan, I have to say that this team has been under a bad sign all season, just stepping from pile to pile. I actually feel bad for y’all!

What is the timeline on Gonzalez coming back… anyone know?

  8. Time to start bringing in some youth at FWD Galaxy. Jack McBean, Raul Mendiola, Jose Villarreal because Barret and Christman are not going to get it done.
