Dynamo defeat FC Dallas on Moffat goal

The Houston Dynamo defeated 10-man FC Dallas in the Texas derby on Saturday night, and they can thank Adam Moffat for that.

Moffat scored the winner in Houston's 2-1 triumph over rivals FC Dallas on Saturay night in the first match between the two at BBVA Compass Stadium. Moffat's goal, combined with Jair Benitez being sent off in the second half, improved the Dynamo to 3-0-1 in their new stadium while extending FC Dallas' current winless run to 10 matches.

Houston jumped out in front three minutes in when the ball ricocheted off Will Bruin and into the back of the net. The visitors equalized in the 59th minute when Jackson got on the end of a fortuitous deflection and smashed home a shot.

The celebrations were shortlived, however, as four minutes later Benitez was given a red card for an elbow on Colin Clark.

The Dynamo capitalized on the man advantage, as Moffat put Houston up for good when a cleared corner kick fell to him inside the penalty area.

Here are the match highlights:

What do you think of the Dynamo's 2-1 win over FC Dallas? What does FC Dallas need to do to right the ship? Agree with Benitez being shown red?

  1. Wonder how long Dallas can keep this sweet losing streak up before they do anything to try and change it, ie coaching change or big roster move. My bet is they do nothing til the season ends, and the squad gets to be built from scratch again, a few more years of last place, then fire coach, rinse and repeat.

  2. I know Carr had the hat on at the start because I was there and have a snapshot of the huddle (with him wearing it). But I was up pretty high and couldn’t always be zoomed in on everyone, and others have said his helmet went bye bye at some point just the same. Heat? When he came off injured? I dunno.

If Carr was half as skilled as he is fast….but 0 G 0 A I am not crying over, I think he has just greased the skids for Boniek straight into the XI. Bluntly, the faster this team moves from old Ching (you can still bring him off the bench) and mediocre Carr/ Clark/ Watson the better. There’s a reason we’ve struggled…and it’s not just the road trip. Talent level needs to go up….Watson can’t do anything like that Camargo pass to Kandji, who himself has to bide time behind Bruin and Ching…..

  3. I was worried that Carr had another head injury (and he wasn’t wearing the helmet…wtf?), but they said that it was a hamstring problem. That means that it maybe is or maybe isn’t serious. With even the slightest hamstring strain, you basically can’t run anymore, so you’re done for the day. Hopefully it’s just minor.

  4. I’m more of a fan of the lineup Houston finished with than started with, save Corey Ashe, who is awful and basically amounted to Dallas’ offensive strategy….ie, attack Corey (keep Taylor start Hainault instead). Ching is past it (missed silver platter jobs all night), Kandji is more effective, and that Camargo-Kandji chip shows why I’d favor Luis over Jevaughn Watson, who got the start and while OK is not as good a player.

Issue I fear is whether Kinnear will play his usual pecking order games or if we can just move to the ideal XI post haste.

Carr got pulled immediately before the half — no making due with 10 for a couple minutes to see if he could recover over the intervening 15 minutes — which seemed serious, anyone know what the deal was?

Far as Benitez goes the more concerning thing to me would be his notion that he even had to contact Clark to stop him; he’s slow as molasses. Not like Oduro was about to fly by him, it’s a slow guy with two knee ops’ history.

  5. It’s time for Benitez to go. He’s talented enough, but his hot head leaves Dallas in dangerous positions far too often. Dallas had been out playing Houston for much of the game, and that was ruined by yet another silly red. Injuries are one thing, but lack of discipline is what hurt us yesterday.
