The Philadelphia Union offense has been a case-study in frustration for much of the 2012 MLS season, but the Union finally found their attacking stride on Saturday night, rattling off four goals against the stingiest defense in MLS to give Union fans reason to feel optimistic about a turnaround.

Jack McInerney scored a pair of goals while Carlos Valdes led an outstanding team defensive effort to help the Union trounce Sporting Kansas City, 4-0, at PPL Park on Saturday night.

McInerney enjoyed a banner night, scoring the first two goals, including a goal in the first minute of play, to help the Union take control early on and put Sporting KC on their heels.

The visitors tested Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath on a couple of occasions, but the young netminder was up to the task on the few occasions when Valdes and the rest of the Union back-line didn't handle the dangerous Sporting KC strike force.

Union rookie Antoine Hoppenot came off the bench and made quite an impression in the second half, drawing a penalty for Philadelphia's third goal (by Lionard Pajoy) before scoring his own goal by chipping KC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen to make the final score 4-0.
