The U.S. women's national team just keeps on rolling ahead of the upcoming Olympics.

Led by braces from Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach, the United States cruised to a 4-1 victory over reigning World Cup champions Japan in a friendly in Halmstad, Sweden on Monday. The result ended the U.S. team's tour of Sweden at 2-0-0 with seven goals scored.

The United States got off to a flying start in the rematch of last year's World Cup final, with Morgan and Wambach each scoring their first goals within the first 10 minutes of the match. Japan pulled one back before halftime through Yuki Nagasato, but Morgan knocked in an insurance goal shortly after the hour-mark. Abby Wambach added insult to injury for the Japanese, scoring her second two minutes into stoppage time.

The Americans will next take on Canada at Rio Tinto Staium on June 30 in their Olympic send off match.

What do you think of the USWNT's win over Japan? Impressed with the play of the U.S. midfield? Come away from the recent friendlies with any concerns about the U.S. team?

  1. Wish I could have seen the game. Did they play a different style today?. I wonder if they are going to park the bus against Japan a la Chelse v. Barca. Having Wambach and Morgan to counter is kind of like having two Drogbas up top.

  2. Yes, they played in the home red stripes in Philly against China. That’s the only time they have worn those in a game.

And I’m sure USSF has fixed the numbers the same way they had to with the men’s jerseys.

“Do you know how much it will cost to change the grey numbers? Give em to the women, no one watches them on TV anyway”
