The Houston Dynamo have the newest soccer-specific stadium in MLS, and they might soon have the newest Designated Player as well.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Dynamo are close to signing Honduran national team attacker Oscar Boniek Garcia to a DP deal. Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear has reportedly been keen on acquring Boniek Garcia since last year, and the 27-year-old would add an attacking option on the right side of Houston's midfield.

Boniek Garcia, who has been capped by Honduras 62 times since 2005, would join the Dynamo on a transfer from Honduran club Olimpia if signed. He'd become the second Designated Player in Houston's history after Mexican forward Luis Angel Landin, who is no longer with the club.

What do you think of the Dynamo possibly signing Boniek Garcia? Do you see him faring well in MLS?

  1. Gio is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for him and Udinese offered 13 million euros for him last summer but the player turned it down since he was set to move to Sevilla and that fell through on the last day of the transfer window when Redknapp withdrew the player from the market because he was going to “need” him.

Gio isn’t worth 10 million pounds because he’s still an unproven player in England. Spain is a different story since he was pretty successful at Racing de Santander, going as far as being voted into the best XI of the second half of the 2010-2011 La Liga season.

  2. alright, Houston doesnt suck. Salt Lake does. They should relinquish their CCL slot, and maybe LA since they’re confined to 7500 attendance.

  3. What does Houston’s Job being “done” or considered done have to do with this? I only brought it up because Dos Santos had been talked about as a big time DP with regards to an impact he might have on the team at the gate….but they are filling their brand new stadium, and like I said already….they averaged 17 to 18K at their old stadium, with an increase of Season tickets of about 4K what makes you think they’ll have to work very heard to sell out their 22K stadium?

Dos Santos price tag alone makes it unrealistic, for some reason Redknapp wants to hold on to him at Spurs and he wanted something like 10 million Euros, that should go down to about 4 or 2 realistically since Dos Santos is a free agent in January if I’m not mistaken but no Dos Santos isn’t worth that type of money…

  4. Rumor is he may be a DP due to transfer fee more than his salary. Either way, assuming he’s a low end DP, he could be a huge addition that will make the Dynamo a much more dangerous attacking team.

  5. it’s Houston not Dallas….and with the new stadium people will be looking to go to games, it’s hard as it is to get a ticket to watch a games, at least for the 1st 2 years, if the Dynamo have CCL games it’s a great chance for fans to go watch a game, and probably a good one since it’s an official and international match….

  6. You need to watch and pay attention to something elseother then Euro leagues, national teams and the Revs if you area New England Revs fan…..This guy startsfor Honduras National team and gave our left wing a run when we played them under Klinsmann last October, and he was also doing plenty of work vs Mexico in the Gold Cup Semifinal….

Dos Santos is stuck in a ridiculous position as Tottenham apparently thinks they should get 10 million Euros, or was it pounds, for him and if you ask me Redknapp is out of his mind considering HE himself doesn’t even play Dos Santos….stadium is nearly sold out wiht about 11K season tickets, bringing Dos Santos at this point is mute….you couldn’t even cash in on his draw….maybe in a year when the buzz of the new stadium has worn off and you can see what kind of crowd the team will get permanently…but considering they would bet 17-19K at Robertson and this stadium increasing season ticket holders I would say 22K sell outs are pretty much a realistic task.

This is what they need, a playmaker who forces teams to focus on someone else other than Davis

  7. Very fast, can take guys on one on one, good delivery, and can cut inside and create. I expect the two guys that will benefit the most from him are Davis and Camargo.

  8. Great addition to the right wing. They’ve been working on this for about a year and a half. The president of Olimpia kept shutting the deal down.

  10. I’ve watched Honduras play but I can’t recall him specifically.

Can you describe what makes him “special”?

  11. looks like a great signing on paper, i don’t recall any of his games with Honduras but apparently he has 62 caps including 2 gold cups and 1 world cup. wiki says he was linked with wigan and psg so it sounds like a quality pro.
