When the Portland Timbers take on the Seattle Sounders in Sunday's installment of the Cascadia Derby, they will have to do so without defensive standout Hanyer Mosquera.

Major League Soccer's Disicplinary Committee has suspended Mosquera for three matches for punching LA Galaxy striker Jack McBean late in the Timbers' 1-0 loss to the Galaxy last weekend.

The decision leaves the Timbers missing their top defender heading into a crucial showdown against arch-rival Seattle, which is looking to snap a six match winless streak.

Here are some more stories to get your Saturday going:

SANTOS LAGUNA TO FACE REAL MADRID IN VEGAS

Juventus' abrupt decision to back out of the World Football Challenge has left organizers scrambling for replacements, and at least one replacement will provide a welcome homecoming for one American player.

Mexican club champion Santos Laguna has replaced Juventus as Real Madrid's opponent for a friendly slated for Aug. 5th in Las Vegas.

The match will serve as a homecoming for U.S. national team striker Herculez Gomez, a Las Vegas resident who helped Santos Laguna win the Mexican Clausura title.

JOSEPH, MORENO TO MISS REVS MATCH vs. TFC

New England standout Shalrie Jopseh will miss the Revs match against Toronto FC today with an adductor injury suffered in the team's scoreless draw vs. Columbus last weekend.

Revs striker Jose Moreno will also miss the match with an ankle sprain suffered last week.

Not all the injury news is bad news for New England. Midfielder Clyde Simms is expected to be back in action today vs. Toronto.

What do you think of these developments? Agree with the suspension of Mosquera, or do you think the Disciplinary Committee got this one wrong? See New England winning without Shalrie Joseph? Plan on going to Las Vegas to see Santos Laguna take on AC Milan?

  1. Great news for Gomez and Santos Laguna… Terrible news for me and anyone else who paid for a flight, hotel, and tickets to see Real Madrid vs. Juventus!

  2. Mosquera really cold cocked McBean. Not even a yellow during the game. Poor kid. Glad the Galaxy pursued disciplinary action after the fact.

  3. How old is Jack McBean now? 17?? I wonder if Scotland is still after him?

Great news for Santos Laguna and H. Gomez. I hope Hercules shows the hospitality that Vegas is known for to his SL teamamtes.

  4. How about disciplining the San Jose Earthquakes for diving. The whole team. They talk about cracking down and yet they don’t do anything to the worst diving team in the league.
