Sebastien LeToux wasted no time getting acclimated to his new team, but the New York Red Bulls continued their recent struggle in recording victories.

The Red Bulls dropped points for the sixth time in seven matches on Sunday afternoon, rallying back from an early deficit on their way to a 2-2 draw against the Seattle Sounders at Red Bull Arena.

Alvaro Fernandez gave Seattle the early 1-0 lead before LeToux capped his Red Bulls debut with a goal just eight minutes later. Joe Lindpere gave New York a second-half lead before Fredy Montero delivered an equalizer for the Sounders in the 67th minute, just five minutes after coming on as a substitute.

The Red Bulls were without goalkeeper Ryan Meara, who was sidelined with a hip injury, forcing newly-acquired veteran Bill Gaudette into the starting role. He made three saves on a night that saw the Red Bulls defense playing without injured MLS All-Star Heath Pearce, and with Rafa Marquez leaving the match after just 21 minutes due to an injury.

Here are the match highlights:

  1. Stupid play by Alonso, very lucky not to get caught. The linesman almost had a clear line of sight, only blocked by Henry at the last moment. Even this Sounders fan can admit it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets fined or retroactively punished.

  2. Just how high must a boot be to meet your expert criteria for a dangerous play? I’m just curious, a little further over his head? Maybe if he would have just kicked Alonso in the face?

  3. Another wacky episode of the Keystone Kops, er, MLS officials. Call an obvioud handball in the box? Nah! Call back a goal to grant a ten-yard space that wasn’t even requested? Yes! Stay tuned for an unsatisfying comment about “our commitment to improving evey aspect of the league, including the officiating” from your host, Don Garber.

  4. As usual this team is going nowhere they look loss and
Henry stop complaining and play soccer, first he does not want to play on turf then he does not want to play when is hot,I am pretty sure when you sign the contract for 5 +millions you knew where are you going to play the same as Marquez, and the coach has no clue how to play the team.

  5. False, no one asked for 10 yards and the ref never told Henry to wait for the whistle, however the ref did blow the whistle before Miller shot the ball so who know’s if it would have been a goal.

  6. Red Card and a PK, no question, and Seattle goes into the break at least a man down and possibly a goal down. No way they come back on Sauna Day.

  7. That is actually not true. If the referee is setting up a wall, he usually signals to the offensive team to wait for the whistle, which he must have done in this case. Hence the yellow card.

  8. Where are the comments about the formation? EVERY Red Bull looked confused at some point during the game. On Seattle’s second goal, it looked like Dax thought someone else had Montero, and then, “Uh oh” . .. but it was too late.

Maybe the new formation will work, but it’s gonna take a while.

  9. There were few calls that were very iffy ….Hand ball, then next corner ,never in my life ( watching and playing soccer for 28 years) I had see ref blown a whistle while the ball is in play in the box. second half had few as well, first is Latoux offside were he clearly is behind parke , then he continues to play and gets hacked in the pk area.what really bothered me is that we have a free kick , ref dosnt tell Henry to wait for the whistle , he passes the ball to miller fast , miller scores . goal gets called back ,as ref wants to whistle first, Henry gets a yellow. this is example of refs not knowing what to do, that should be a GOAL.well I hope that disciplinary commitie will suspend Alonso for cheating

  10. THANK YOU! That’s what made that call so awful-a non-handball/red cardable offense that was an RBNY Corner.
If Henry didn’t hit the ball out, how else could it have been off Seattle unless it was a off the hand! His head/torso was no where near the ball. Just plain awful. And don’t get me started with the yellow card the awful ref gave Henry for taking the free kick early when he didn’t want the wall…I think the ref needs to get a refresher on the Laws of the Game.

  11. couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

if only it happened in a game that was important, like, say, a world cup qualifier.

  12. high boot – please.
Obvious (on the replay) hand ball. Linesman was screened and don’t think the ref had a good angle.
Whats bizarre is the corner kick call. If Henry hits it then goal kick. How Seattle hits it without the hand ball is unknown.

  14. Another unbelievable blown call from MLS officials on the blatant handball that swept the ball out of bounds. Henry was beyond the point of even complaining. It was almost comical to watch his reaction to the absurdity of it all.
