MLS Match Day: Your Running Commentary

MLS Logo

The red-hot Chicago Fire will look to push the LA Galaxy's losing streak to three matches today in the day's most high-profile match-up on the MLS schedule.

Four games fill out the day, beginning with the Fire's clash with an LA side that had enjoyed a nice run before suffering back-to-back defeats. The return of Omar Gonzalez has the Galaxy feeling good about the second half of the season, and they will need Gonzalez to slow down a Fire attack that is capable of scoring in bunches.

At PPL Park, the Philadelphia Union will try to keep their recent run of good form going against a TFC side that is suddenly unbeaten in four matches under new head coach Paul Mariner. Danny Koevermans is the hottest striker in the league at the moment, but he will come up against a strong Union defense.

Here is today's schedule of MLS matches:

3 p.m. ESPN - Chicago Fire vs. Los Angeles Galaxy

4 p.m. TSN/MLS Live/Direct Kick – Philadelphia Union vs. Toronto FC

7 p.m. Galavision - New England Revolution vs. New York Red Bulls

7:30 p.m. TSN/MLS Live/Direct Kick - Montreal Impact vs. Columbus Crew

  1. Maybe it was a two-fer, as there was a missed blatant handball on the line by Philly in the midweek Galaxy/Union match as well.

  2. Fire’s offense is once again sluggish without Grazzini. This was a huge game for the Fire and they really disappointed…especially in the first half. Didn’t think a PK should have been given but it happened early enough that there was time to recover. They really miss Grazzini. I’m afraid we’ll never see him in a Fire uniform again.

  3. Two things need to happen for Dempsey to leave Fulham:

    1. It needs to be a step up to a Champions League team or at the very least a team that will definitely be in contention for the Champion’s League. Liverpool (same exact record as Fulham this year if I remember correctly) does not fit this criteria.

    2. They have to come up with at least 10m pounds. Otherwise Fulham may as well just kept Dempsey for another year. 6 million is a joke

  5. Fans like to rag on LD for various reasons, but the guy knows how to play. After watching him chip a ball to Keane that Robbie failed to one time I wonder how many other players in MLS could have executed that play?

  6. I don’t know, but he sure changed the game today with his substitution. Could you see him in that role for the USMNT in time, as long as he’s healthy and wants to keep playing? I hope he does.

Keane’s run too…so good, just that feel not to screw it up and go too early. He’s great to watch for my son (and all of us)to see what great, timely, intelligent runs consistently provided can produce. Robbie finally finished this time, because he does this most games

    cheers

  7. landy created the goal but you’ll notice that after making the pass he gives up on the play, then doesn’t celebrate. I wonder what goes through this guy’s head sometimes….

  8. just like that, d lapse…doink

great save Saunders required to just tip Rolfe’s try wide…and then Keane and Donovan hook up all the way up the filed on the counter

near post finish after swesome run as usual from Robbie

  9. I agree that there are some big snubs, but it’s a pretty good 11 too. Lots of good players deserve to be there for sure. So many, in fact, that I’d really like to see East vs West.

  10. instead it’s Jordan for Jiminez, who looked lively and is just missing the final ball to score. He’s showing OK, but Franklin needs some help out there on D…60th minute

  11. interesting perspective on how they should be called

it was close, not as close as a couple not given recently to the Galaxy which were more obvious PKs, so maybe it should not have been given

  12. Wow some brutal snubs in the Best XI. Think Dan Kennedy wishes he didn’t play for Chivas right now? Or Koovermans for TFC? Sheesh. Well, it looks like MLS is going with “Best = most High Profile and Most Likely to Get the Average US Sports Fan to Watch” plan.

  13. Lopes is a statue, gets beat to the line 2-3-4 times a game. just not a very good defender in those situations, and others

  14. Official just really blew that. Handball happens outside the box and he gives a late penalty after Galaxy players freak out. Referee been paying attention to Galaxy whining to the point where he’s just gifting penalties that aren’t?
