MLS Match Night: Your Running Commentary

MLS Logo

It is a busy 4th of July night in Major League Soccer, with more than half the league's teams in action in matches across the country.

Struggling Real Salt Lake and Seattle face off in a match of highly-regarded but slumping Western Conference powers. RSL has hit a three-match losing streak, but they will be the favorites against a Seattle side that hasn't won in eight MLS matches.

At Home Depot Center, a David Beckham-less LA Galaxy will take on the Philadelphia Union in a battle of teams that started the year slowly.

Here is a rundown of tonight's MLS matches:

7pm- Montreal Impact vs. Sporting Kansas City

9pm- FC Dallas vs. Toronto FC

9:30pm- Colorado Rapids vs. Vancouver Whitecaps

10pm- Real Salt Lake vs. Seattle Sounders

10:30pm- Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Philadelphia Union

  1. I’m not saying he wasn’t on, I’m saying that live it wasn’t an easy call – look at the live replay and be honest and you’ll admit the same.

  2. Boy you Sounders fans really can talk yourselves into believing anything.
Now tell us about what an upstanding character Eddie Johnson is…

  3. He spent the whole build up to the play in an off-side position and then attempted to duck back just in time to be on-side when the ball was struck. Given the position of the AR, I would guess that he felt Saborio never really made it.
If you watch it live, without the benefit of repeated viewings, slow motion and freeze-frames, I’d say it wasn’t an unreasonable call and that there was nothing “clear” about it.

  4. Replays and photos show Saborio clearly was not offside… will Seattle Sounders fans complain about the bad call for the next week like they did when it went against them?

  5. Robson’s debut for vancouver was embarrassing. The worst debut I’ve ever seen and that includes Eddie Johnson at Fulham. seriously vancouver why do you bring these hacks over as star signings to start them above promising young N. American players? Its not like anyone ever heard of Robson.

Hassli was obviously worth it but the Scotts MLS has signed not so much.

  6. Great to see David Ferreria finally back. FCd did not get the win so it may not be possible to get into the playoff picture but really nice to start getting healthy players back.

  7. I don’t know… What the hell took the ref so long to call the first penalty? The second one was really odd. What exactly did Arnaud do? The replays were terrible.

Sometimes a bad ref can ruin a game by the way he makes calls even if they are correct. This guy looked like he was flustered all game, which only made his calls look worse than they probably were.

  8. Much as I hate to see penalties decide a match, SKC got a decent win. Much as I love Davy Arnaud, he absolutely deserved to get hit with that second penalty for his shenanigans in the box.
