Olympic Soccer: USA vs. North Korea (Match Day Commentary)

U.S. Soccer Federation        NorthKorea

After two Olympic victories, the U.S. women's national team aims to make it a Group G sweep in its match against North Korea at Old Trafford in Manchester, England (12:15 p.m., NBC Sports Network, stream on NBCOlympics.com).

The Americans have combined for seven goals in victories over France and Colombia, but much of the focus has shifted to goalkeeper Hope Solo and her pointed tweets at former U.S. standout and current television analyst Brandi Chastain.

The United States will be facing a team playing for its survival, as North Korea is currently tied with France for second place in the group on three points. North Korea can still qualify for the knockout stage as a third-place qualifier, but Canada and New Zealand are also in contention for third-place berths, meaning North Korea would need at least a point to be safe.

SBI will be providing live commentary on today's match so please feel free to follow along with the action here. As always, you are welcome to share your own thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Commentary is after the jump):

  1. exactly. And it took FOREVER to get her out of the starting lineup even though Morgan was already a scoring machine. My prediction is that Arod drops off the team altogether by the next World Cup. Though Pia is terrible about bringing in new players so we’ll see.

  2. Ironic that I criticize someone for being inarticulate and then proceed to publish a post with a typo.

    “she Chastain” = “Chastain”

  3. It is indeed absurd. She probably does know much about soccer since she was a good player, but she Chastain is a terrible commentator.

When will American television networks learn that being an articulate and engaging presenter has nothing to do with being a former player?

  4. You mean like when they just had half their team caught for steroid usage and are now banned from the next World Cup?

You act like the accusation has no merit. Um hello they were caught. The entire team is banned from major tournaments by FIFA.

  5. Oh great, this dude. I swear, you have to be the most irritating person on this board. Most of the time, you give no insightful analysis, yet believe that you know more than anyone else that posts here. All you do is insult people, I’d bet my house that you’re probably a miserable person to be around.

  6. OH MY GOD

    CHASTAIN SHUT THE F*** UP

The more I listen, the more I agree with Hope Solo. She is freaking awful. How about that 5 minute stretch where she talked about her husband? NOBODY CARES. And to suggest that it was her husband who convinced Abby Wambach to be a hard worker? Seriously?!

  7. Yeah, that’s really annoying. I was going to post about the same thing. It was the same in the U.S. game against Colombia. Most noticeable when there’s a shot on goal.

  8. people starve when they have no good. That is not to suggest the whole nation is Third World. Simply state the vast difference in social income and well being.

Don’t throw out such a huge and descriptive term. Because the poor in Africa would seriously be envy of the poor and starving here okay Dungbeetle

  9. Am I the only one who gets frustrated with our WNT? Their passing is so horrible, and they play long balls in the air hopelessly forward way too often. They can play a good possession game, they just refuse to most of the time.

  10. Thank you sir. By the way are Chinese actors still impersonating North Korean fans? True story from a soccer tournament. I forgot which one.

  11. yeah, and her crossing has been sub-par. She’s like this sometimes. I wish Pia would have just rested her the whole game. There’s really no reason to play all your starters. But Pia is stubborn and does this often.

  12. WHy the censorship?
It was a good question –
If the Koreans win, will the US accuse them of using drugs. It has happened once already. the US has become a bunch of cry babies.

  14. Anybody know why the audio is slightly ahead of the video again? I’m sick of Arlo White telling me it the post before it actually does.

  15. sAY WHAT.

Now of course the cost of living is higher and social welfare isn’t enough to help it but how can u say that at all? The gulf between rich and poor is vast but not that vast. Go to the poor in England and Sweden and tell them they’re 3rd world
