Red Bulls vs. Union: Match Day Commentary

New York Red Bulls Logo Philadelphia Union Logo

The New York Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union renew their I-95 rivalry today at Red Bull Arena (2:30pm, ESPN2).

The Red Bulls are riding high off a big mid-week victory against the Chicago Fire, and they take on an improving Union side that has won four of five matches under interim head coach John Hackworth. The Union will look to record their first point (let alone victory) at Red Bull Arena, where the Red Bulls have been tough to beat in 2012.

Thierry Henry will be leading the New York attack while a familiar face to Union fans, Sebastien LeToux, will be facing his former club for the first time since being traded to their arch rival.

The Union will look to their stingy defense to try and slow down the Red Bulls' high-flying attack, while Jack McInerney and Lionard Pajoy look to test a Red Bulls defense that has shown vulnerability in recent weeks.

SBI will be providing live commentary from today's match, so please feel free to follow along. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Match Commentary is after the jump):

  1. Your two cents taken but the midfield seats bake in early summer kick off’s, the upper level does not. Where is Jonny Toro?

  2. It was a rocking arena but an early kick off means the midfield seats will bake in the summer sun by the 2nd half. The upper level will not. We sit by the corner of the South Ward and it was great. Where’s Johnny Torro?

  3. MASE I was there too and except for the supporters sections which were absolutely awesome, lamentably it didn’t seem very packed to me, namely the midfield seating area where the red bull symbol could easily be discerned. The problem lies in that many casual fans would rather be walking about the stadium’s concourse and hanging out checking out the stadium’s amenities rather seated taking in the action. Contrast this with for example Livestrong where Sporting KC plays. The casual fanbase seems to be into it and following the action closely. Very discouraging and reflective of the sh*t market Northern Jersey is. Well anyway my two cents.

  4. good news for soccer fans from PA…FC Sonic 3-2 over NYRB U23s in NPSL playoff action last evening at Lehigh University. They now advance to the NPSL Final Four in San Diego.

  5. Please, people, go to these games. If I lived in NYC, I would, but how this team, right now, can’t actually get 20k is a shame.

  6. Ok, watching (since minute 60 or so) a very pacy and fluid NYRB. Lade is definitely showing attacking pace and popping up to frustrate Philly possession.

Looking forward to the next DCU v. NYRB tilt.
